Peachjar eFlyers

Last year, FVSD began utilizing an electronic flyer distribution system, Peachjar, in an effort to improve communication, ensure a strong link between home and school, and to enhance community support and involvement in our schools. Every school, the District Office, and outside organizations uses Peachjar to distribute district-approved e-flyers to families district wide .  We are excited about the addition of Peachjar and look forward to this means of communication! FACILITIES MASTER PLAN (FMP)

District staff, parents, Trustees, community leaders, and even students have worked together with LPA Architects, Inc. to create a detailed Facilities Master Plan (FMP).  The District's newly developed FMP identifies a vision for the next 10 to 15 years and provides a road map to coordinate short and long-range goals for our school buildings.

Happy Friday!!

Although it's hard to believe, we have already completed our first month of school!  And, it is with great excitement that we share some of the highlights from the early parts of our year.

To begin, we are extremely proud to report that achievement in FVSD is, once again, UP! Scores in both English Language Arts and math have increased throughout the District, and we are excited to continue our pursuit of excellence.   In addition, we are thrilled to share updates with you on our facilities, professional development, community partnerships and our District-wide focus on an inclusive, caring and high-performing culture.

As always, thank you for all you do to support teaching and learning in our District!

Kindly,
Mark Johnson, Ed.D.
Superintendent

SPOTLIGHT: ACHIEVEMENT UP IN FVSD!
Each spring, over 4,000 students in FVSD, and over 3.2 million students in the state, participate in the Smarter Balanced Assessment Program, and results are shared as part of the California Assessment for Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) system. After reviewing the results, we are exceptionally proud to report that FVSD is UP, again, in both ELA and math.  The results from CAASPP are extremely exciting, as it provides further evidence that our work in teaching and learning continues to improve.  A big THANK YOU to our teachers, classified staff, administrators, parents and community for their collaborative and tireless efforts to serve the students in our District. In addition, we want to thank our Board of Trustees, who provides a consistent vision with a clear focus on academic achievement.
HIGHLIGHT: 21 DAY HAPPINESS CHALLENGE

In August, at this year's Leadership Advance, over 100 FVSD employees came together to discuss our current and future work, and to celebrate and reflect upon our many successes.  In addition, we issued a 21 Day Happiness Challenge, as a part of our emphasis on the inclusive, loving and caring culture of our District.  Inspired by Shawn Achor's TED Talk, "The Happiness Advantage," employees were challenged to write a thank you note, card or email to one person in their social support network, daily, for 21 days.  At times, life gets in the way, but this challenge inspired us to stop and let people know how much we appreciate them.  The feedback from participants has been wonderful, and we are happy to hear that this act has inspired others to continue sharing their love for those around them.  The inclusive, caring culture of our District is so much a part of why #WeHeartFVSD!

We invite you to join us in this effort, which begins by clicking on the video above!
UPDATE:  FACILITIES
Our facilities efforts continue through the implementation of funds from Measure O.  We are pleased to share that on September 19th, architectural plans for Courreges Elementary and Masuda Middle School were submitted to the Division of State Architects (DSA) for plan approval. And, we are also very happy to share that we have contracted with West Coast Air Conditioning Co., Inc. to provide construction services on both of these projects!  Once again, we want to give a big THANK YOU to our amazing community for their support of our students, staff and sites through the passage Measure O!!
HIGHLIGHT: HYUNDAI HOPE ON WHEELS
On Saturday, October 30th, we were proud to partner with Hyundai Motor America for their Hyundai Hope on Wheels Night Under the Stars event at Fountain Valley Sports Park.  This evening provided a free, fun-filled community program for families to enjoy music, food, inflatables and more, including the presentation of a generous check in support of our literacy programs.  The Hyundai Hope on Wheels Night Under the Stars was followed by the Super Heroes Run for Hope 5k/10k Family Fun Run on October 1.  All proceeds from the Fun Run benefited Children's Hospital of Orange County and their work surrounding pediatric cancer.  We are fortunate to have community partners like Hyundai Motor America in support of our District.  We are grateful to Hyundai Motor America for their continued generous support of our students and programs!
CELEBRATE: COTSEN HIGHLIGHTS PD EFFORTS IN FVSD
For years, The Cotsen Foundation's The Art of Teaching has been known as a leader in the development of excellent teachers.  In our relationship with Cotsen, we have been fortunate to receive grants totally nearly $50,000 to assist in our professional development efforts.  Sparked by FVSD Teacher, Lara Epling, the included article shares our journey in the implementation of Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI), a signature practice in our elementary schools.   Read more
TAG IT!: #WeHeartFVSD
Our theme for 2017-18 is We Heart FVSD, as we celebrate the caring and loving culture that is Fountain Valley School District.  We hope that you will join us in documenting your love for our students, our staff and our community by tagging your photos on social media #WeHeartFVSD.
