Halloween Fun Offered Nearby

Take part in all kinds of Halloween fun offered locally this month. But first, get your Halloween attire together by visiting  Starship Earth, 16880 Lorain Avenue. The store is packed to the ceiling with masks, wigs, costume jewelry, and costumes. Check out their storefront window for macabre ideas. It's always a treat to see around Halloween! The shop is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Call 216-251-1444 for more information.

With your costume ready, here is where to show it off:

On Thursday, October 26, from 4 to 5 p.m. the West Park Branch of the Cleveland Public Library, 3805 West 157th Street, offers a Happy Halloween event for school-aged children. Costumes are welcome but not required to enjoy Halloween treats, spooky tales, crafts, and scary music -- all age appropriate for little ones.

Also on October 26, all are invited to the Fall Festival at John Marshall High School, 3952 West 140th Street, for family-friendly pumpkin decorating, face painting, and Halloween performances, starting at 4 p.m. A small charge of only $3 per person gains entrance to all the fun. See details in the flyer, here.

Saturday afternoon, October 28, the West Park Family YMCA invites families with children of all ages to celebrate safely inside the gymnasium at 15501 Lorain Avenue, from noon to 2 p.m. The fun includes a haunted walk, cookie decorating, face painting, a photo booth, and family games. No pre-registration is needed. Come dressed in a fun or scary Halloween costume. See the event flyer with details, here.

Earlier that day, join the 4th Annual Hermes Dead Sprint through Kamm's Corners! This year's event includes a chip-timed 5K race through the neighborhood and a "Little Monster Candy Dash" (not timed) for kids ages 8 and younger ($10 each). The 5K is $30 each, but $35 on race day, starting at 7:30 a.m. for the 8:30 a.m. race. Top finishers in the 5K race will receive awards. The event begins and ends at West Park Station, 17015 Lorain Avenue, where a post-race party takes place. Click here for all the details.

City of Cleveland Reactivates Seasonal Leaf Pick-up Program in Designated Areas

Starting November 6 and ending December 31, residents will see Cleveland City workers and eight leaf vacuum vehicles in use during the pick-up process. See the map of designated areas, here.

Signs will be posted one week prior to service. To streamline the process, residents are encouraged to rake leaves from their property onto the tree lawns -- not into the streets. To accommodate city crews, residents are asked to park off-street, during the service period. Each area will be serviced at least twice during the eight-week period, weather permitting. Leaves will be transported to the approved leaf compost site, diverting more than 2,000 tons of leaf material from the waste stream. For more information, click here.
