RHS Students Perform at New Jersey All-State Mixed Choir
17 Roxbury High School students performed with the New Jersey All-State Mixed Choir at the NJEA Convention in Atlantic City over the NJEA Break. These students will perform again on Sunday, November 20th at NJPAC.

Roxbury High School Honors Students of the Month
 Roxbury High School in Succasunna has listed its "Students of the Month" for the month of October.
This student recognition program at Roxbury High School recognizes student achievement and helps create a more positive school climate and culture. Each month, from October through May, a student will be recognized as "Student of the Month" in one of 11 subject areas, for capturing what it means to be a model student, reinforcing the ideals of hard work, determination, perseverance, and persistence.

RHS National Honor Society Inducts New Members
 Roxbury High School's National Honor Society more than doubled on Thursday night when it inducted 84 new members to add to the 62 already existing members.
Students inducted pledged to continue to uphold the four pillars that make up the National Honor Society (NHS) which are scholarship, service, character, and leadership.

Franklin School Celebrates Veteran's Day
Franklin School celebrated Veteran's Day today with a special flag raising ceremony. Students from Girl Scout Troop 6055 and Cub Scout Pack 54 presented and help raise the colors in front of the school and special honored guests.
Many of the dozen or more honored veterans in attendance had a direct connection to a student in the school.
S.A.I.L. Parent Academy Holds First Workshop
Nixon and Franklin School parents participated in the first of four S.A.I.L. Parent Academies at Nixon School on Wednesday Night.
Franklin and Nixon Elementary Schools in Roxbury Township qualify for Title I funding based on the number of students enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program. This Title I program, now called S.A.I.L Parent Academy, plans to hold one workshop a marking period.
The purpose of these academies is for parents to want to come to the schools and feel comfortable enough to come in and learn and ask questions so that they can provide the best support at home.

Jefferson School Raises Community Awareness with Food Drive
In an effort to raise community awareness, Jefferson Elementary School ran a food drive in October to collect non-perishable items for Roxbury Social Services.
Jefferson School held a contest between the grade levels to help add an extra incentive. The winning grade level received a pizza party.
The school collected nearly 700 items at the end of the drive. Fourth graders led the pack doing an excellent job of collecting 264 items.
Nixon PTA Hears About Security Initiatives
 Many of Roxbury PTAs this week were visited by the district superintendent and the new director of security to go over the district goals including our new security initiative.
Thursday night Loretta Radulic and James Simonetti attended Nixon's PTA meeting just the same.
Prior to their presentation, Nixon second graders presented at the meeting.
Second-grade students from Alyssa Bellardino, Maureen Milde, and Stephanie Echevarria's talked about the election and veterans.
Once the second-grade presentation had concluded, many parents and students stayed to hear about Roxbury's district goals and security initiatives.

'Draw Your Own Character' and Kubert Workshop
National Art Honor Society Art Club Invites all students interested in Animation, Graphic Design, and computer art to a presentation and workshop
from the Kubert School.
They will show a presentation of their program and summer classes for HS students along with conducting a hands-on workshop after school with our students.
They are also bringing some of their own students who are currently in their program to help our students with creating their own character.

With Monday night's victory against Northern Highlands, Head Coach Cosmo Lorusso has now achieved more wins than any other coach in Roxbury history! Congratulations on this great achievement!
Roxbury Football Wins Exciting Final Home Game
 Roxbury seniors Joey Badgley and Tucker Voelbel made three touchdowns each Monday night as the Roxbury High School football team beat Northern Highlands in its last home game of the year.

It's Roxbury vs. Wayne Hills Again as NJSIAA Changes Mind
The Gaels are back to playing Wayne Hills in a state tournament game.
After a day-long, closed-door hearing on Tuesday, the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) Appeals Committee decided to allow Wayne Hills back into the state playoffs. The top-seeded Patriots will take on 8th Seeded Roxbury at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at Warren Hills.

Former Roxbury Volleyball Star Lauren Kornmann is America East Rookie of the Year
 Former Roxbury High School volleyball player Lauren Kornmann, now playing for Binghamton University, was named rookie of the year by coaches in the America East Conference, an honor that doesn't surprise Roxbury volleyball coach Anthony McMichael.
Kornmann, a Kenvil resident who graduated Roxbury in June, was also named First-Team All Conference, noted McMichael. "These are tremendous achievements that should be recognized," he added.
The rookie of the year award was announced Thursday at the America East Conference Annual Awards Banquet. Kornmann is the second player in three years from Binghamton to be named rookie of the year, according to the university.

Entries Sought for Highlands Photo, Art Contest
 The New Jersey Highlands Coalition, in association with the Morris Museum and Morris Arts, will host its fourth Annual Highlands Art and Photography Exhibit featuring the landscapes, flora, fauna, natural or cultural resources of the Highlands of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut.
Artists are invited to submit work for exhibits this fall and winter at the Morris Museum and the Atrium Gallery, both in Morristown. Winning entries and a selection of finalists will be featured in a special pop-up exhibit at the Morris Museum to be held December 16-18th, and an extended exhibit at the Atrium Gallery, a spacious, three story exhibit space at the Morris County Administration Building in Morristown.

CCM Fifth Annual Photo Contest for High School Students Prizes for First, Second and Third Place Winners
 New Jersey high school students with an eye for photography have until April 15, 2017 to enter the County College of Morris (CCM) Fifth Annual Photo Contest for the chance to win prizes and be recognized at a CCM art exhibition.
High-school-age photographers are invited to submit photos representing their definition of family. "Entries should go beyond the traditional definition of family as by birth or marriage and instead explore a contemporary, personal definition of family such as friendship, community, nation, global village and beyond," says Professor Hrvoje Slovenc, who teaches photography at CCM. "Contestants also are encouraged to depict all the good and bad that relationships bring."
Winning photographs, honorable mentions and finalists will be featured in an exhibition also including work by CCM photography students. The exhibit will take place next May in CCM's Art and Design gallery. Winners are required to submit high-resolution files for the exhibition and may need to show proof of ID and authorship.

Roxbury Township Public Schools are continuously collecting "Box Tops for Education" at our K-8 schools.
This is an easy, practically effortless way to raise funds for our schools by purchasing items you buy all the time.
Clipped box tops can be sent to any of our K-8 schools district-wide. School addresses can be found on our website at www.roxbury.org.
Roxbury Alumni Association is Looking for Board of Directors
 The Roxbury Alumni Association is looking to expand its current board of directors. They are looking for energetic alum interested in getting involved with Alumni Association and to add new members to its board. Interested individuals should reach out to Mr. Charlie Alpaugh the president of the association at 973-584-8805.
The Roxbury Alumni Association was established in the early 1900s and formally incorporated in 1968. Every year the Alumni Association provides a scholarship to a graduating senior. The association also purchases a Echo yearbook and donates it to the Roxbury Township Library for its archive.
Membership is only $10 and with your gift, you directly support the ability for the Alumni Association to continue giving a RHS grad a scholarship. You are also supporting the association as it develops new programs and events for you to enjoy.

Roxbury Police Food Drive to Help Social Services and Teach Kids Empathy
The Roxbury Police Department's annual food drive to benefit Roxbury Social Services is underway.
The yearly effort allows people to bring non-perishable items to the police station on Route 46 in Ledgewood. The items will be collected by the police department and delivered to the Roxbury Social Services Food Pantry on the day before Thanksgiving, police said.
One thing that makes the police department's food drive special is that it offers parents an opportunity to teach children about "taking an active role in their community by helping to fight hunger," police said. When a child brings items to be donated, they will be named a "Fighting Hunger Hero" and get their photo taken with a police officer. The picture will go on the Roxbury Police Department's Facebook page, the child will be given a T-shirt and some will be picked to get a tour of the police station.

Hoping to Lure Companies, Roxbury Will Soon Dangle an Online Carrot
Businesses in search of a place to set up shop will soon be courted by Roxbury via a new website about to be launched by the township Economic Development Committee (EDC).
The site is scheduled to launch in January. It's goal will be to help companies "learn about doing business in Roxbury" and, toward that end, he told those at the luncheon that they will be able to post to the site information about their businesses.
Environmental Science Academy Offered 8th Graders
 Morris County 8th graders interested in the environmental have until December 2nd to apply for placement in The Morris County Vocational School District's Academy for Environmental Science.
The 4-year-long Academy for Environmental Science "provides students with the interdisciplinary study of natural processes and human impacts in the atmosphere, aquatic systems and soils," according to the vocational school. It says the academy's program of study "links the principles of art, history, language arts, technology, biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics to environmental concepts."

Medicare Open Enrollment Assistance Comes To Succasunna
Trained/Certified volunteer Medicare counselors will be scheduling appointments at no cost at 109 Main Street in Succasunna, NJ from November 1 - December 7, 2016.
Skylands RSVP of Northwest NJ Community Action Partnership, Inc. (NORWESCAP) establishes dedicated enrollment centers to assist beneficiaries in Morris County to choose the proper prescription plan (Part D) for the upcoming year.
The Succasunna Center will also host a Free Open Enrollment Workshop on, Wednesday, October 26 at 7 pm. Attendees will get all the latest updates and the opportunity to ask questions. Seating is limited and RSVP is required. Call 973-970-9250 to reserve your spot at this informative workshop.

Roxbury Rotary's Annual Fruit & Pie Sale
 Fruit from the Roxbury Rotary Annual Fruit and Pie Sale can be picked up from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
at the Horseshoe Lake parking lot at 72 Eyland Avenue in Succasunna on Saturday, November 19th.
Tickets are available for boxes of California navel oranges, California pink grapefruit, pears, apples, and tangerines. Pies can also be ordered, such as apple, peach praline, French Silk cream, lemon meringue, pecan, pumpkin, caramel apple walnut, and key lime.
This fundraiser benefits Roxbury Social Services, Roxbury Public Library, third grader dictionaries, the Roxbury Rotary Roxbury High School Scholarship Program, along with the Raise the Roof for Levi fundraiser.

year Roxbury is joining the Wreaths Across America family in honoring veterans by laying wreaths on the graves of departed servicemen and women on Saturday,

Poster Contest for Fifth Grade Students*
Let your fifth grader's talents shine in the 10th annual Conserve to Preserve Kids (CTP) and Conservation Poster Contest through New Jersey National Gas. This contest is open to all fifth graders within the NJNG's service territory. The poster contest encourages students to illustrate an NJNG energy-saving tip for a chance to win one of three tablets. Each winning student's school receives $1,000 contribution toward an energy-conservation or environmental project and their teacher will receive $100 gift card.
Video Contest for High School Students*
Lights, camera, action ... Put your directional talents on display with New Jersey Natural Gas's sixth annual CTP Kids and Conservation Video contest! The contest is open to high school students (13 years and older) who attend traditional school or are home-schooled within their service territory. The contest calls for students to artistically showcase their energy-saving efforts and ideas through film. Both individually and group/class projects are accepted.
The individual video winner will receive $500 and the winning group submission will receive $2,500. Plus their school will receive a $1,000 contribution toward an energy-conservation or environmental project.
NJNG's community partner, the Asbury Park Press, will feature the top videos on their website. Visitors to the site will vote for their favorite and choose the winner for the $500 Viewer's Choice Award.

Home for the Holiday on Main Street
The second Home for the Holidays event is scheduled for
Saturday, December 3, 2016 on Main Street, Succasunna from
11 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. The Township, along with community members, has planned a day filled with music, crafts, entertainment and food. We have special guests, Anna and Elsa from the movie Frozen performing two shows followed by a meet and greet opportunity. Once again Stockton Carriage will offer old-fashioned horse-drawn rides through the serene Presbyterian cemetery, Dennis Cassidy, Blacksmith will demonstrate the art of a farrier at the Village Antique Store, Fire Company 1 has a truck on display and Santa is available for pictures and will light the tree at the end of the day.

Roxbury Community School Ski Club 2016/2017
The purpose of the Roxbury Community School's Ski and Snowboard Club is to provide students the opportunity to ski and/or snowboard at local mountain resorts. Students will be provided with transportation to and from the mountains. Students will be required to attend meetings, return all necessary forms, and pay a fee for transportation/chape

The Roxbury Community School is dedicated to helping students prepare for college through a few different avenues.
Students can take part in workshops to sharpen their writing skills and prepare for the college essay process.
The Roxbury Community School has also partnered with Kaplan and Lentz & Lentz to empower students to excel on standardized tests like the SAT's and ACT's.

YR Parent/Child Drawing Classes
Young Rembrants is hosting how to draw classes for both parents and children using an engaging methodology that all can succeed with. We learn about drawing and art while developing academic, conceptual, and critical thinking skills. We have fun too!
Parents and children can enjoy some special time learning how to draw together with Young Rembrandts!

YR After-school - Fall (Session 2) and Winter
Registrations are now being accepted for winter Young Rembrandt classes through the elementary schools after school. Do you have a little artist in your midst and are in hopes of finding a fun and creative confidence-boosting outlet for them? If so, then the Young Rembrandts winter course is just for them! Young Rembrandts teaches children the technical skills of drawing, the basis of all visual arts, in a fun and nurturing setting. Kujenga Robotics and Coding Upcoming Programs
After School with Kujenga - Fall (Session 2) and Winter
 The Roxbury Community School has teamed up with KUJENGA, an educational entity designed to bring robotics, coding, engineering and science skills to all students in order to prepare them for the technology-driven future. Kujenga is the Swahili word for "build" or "create". We are here to open a world of imagination and creativity for your child while they learn design and engineering principles as well as science, math and coding.

Coding is the new literacy! Kujenga teaches programming to young students using robotics, Scratch Jr, and Scratch. Learning to code helps young people think creatively and reason systematically.

Mad Science Upcoming Programs
Mad Science After School (Winter Classes)
Registrations are now being taken for winter Mad Science programs after school programs at the five elementary schools in district. Join their hands-on, one-hour science programs that are themed around a particular area of science This winter K-4 students will see if they are smarter than a mad scientist and Lincoln/Roosevelt students will learn some "Fairly Odd Forces". Cost: $90 per student.

Accents on Dance Upcoming Programs
Hip Hop Dance After School
 Hip Hop is an eclectic street style of dance that is performed in running shoes to current upbeat tempos. The dynamic moves taught in Hip Hop class are fast, stylish, funky and similar to those seen in music videos.
This class is appropriate for high energy dancers that are driven by a beat. Similar to a Jazz class, Hip Hop is broken down into 3 parts - warm up, corner work/technique and choreography. Students in a Hip Hop class will work on their strength, flexibility, and musicality through intricate fun and fast paced funky choreography.
Since the tempos are usually quicker than any other dance form, the choreography in a Hip Hop class provides a great cardio workout and is also a fun way to exercise the mind and memory.
(Children should wear comfortable clothes and sneakers to class)

Recreational Dance at Jefferson School
 Join the Accents on Dance Studio in this new program for boys and girls in grades K-4.
This program is a win/win opportunity for both parents and children. We are creating a dance class that will expose dancers to Jazz, Musical Theatre, Ballet, and Lyrical forms of dance.

 Join the Accents on Dance Studio for this new program which is the perfect introduction to dance for our very youngest dancers. Ages 18 mos. to 3 years old are invited to attend a 6 week session of "Mommy & Me". These classes are structured to stimulate coordination skills, listening skills, balance, music interpretation, creative movement and motor development in the youngest dancers.

 Spring Kiddie Soccer
Register for the seasonal 8-week spring Kiddie Soccer for ages 3.5-6 years old. The program teaches a series of fun, thematic games designed to teach the children the very basics of soccer. Spring sessions meet on Sundays starting April 9th at Lincoln/Roosevelt field. Tuition starts at $130 per child.

 Winter Intramurals at L/R
Register now for this 11-week session (22 total sessions) to play floor hockey, basketball, and volleyball before school from 7:15-8:15 AM just for Lincoln/Roosevelt students. Your child will have the opportunity to play a variety of sports and activities. The groups are typically co-ed and broken up randomly each day.
This session begins on Tuesday, December 6th and ends on Thursday, February 23rd in the L/R gymnasium. Cost is $200 per student.

 Getting Paid to Talk Workshop
Ever been told you have a great voice? From audio books and cartoons to documentaries, commercials, and more, this class will introduce you to the growing field of voice over. Learn what the pros look for, how to prepare, and where to find work in your area! You'll even have an opportunity to record a short professional script under the direction of a teacher.
The next workshop is Thursday, April 6th at Roxbury High School. Tuition is $15 per person.

NYC Shopping Trip - December 17th
Sometimes it's nice to go somewhere without any concrete plans and have an opportunity to let a day leisurely unfold. If you've had this thought, then this trip is for you
!
Enjoy the spirit of the city's holiday season. Walk along Fifth Avenue and view the amazingly decorated holiday windows of famous stores, visit St. Patrick's Cathedral, dine on your schedule at a restaurant of your choice, see Rockefeller Center's Tree and the ice-skaters at its rink. You're free to choose whether to shop, visit Times Square attractions or a city museum or two.
The way you spend your day is up to you, but you'll travel by luxury bus to and from a central Manhattan location.
