Principal Message:  October 12, 2017

D ear Parents,
Welcome Back from Fall Break! I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend.  We have had a fantastic quick week back.
As you are aware, tomorrow is the last day of the first quarter which means that report cards will be coming out soon.  I want to reiterate how important this communication tool is between the teacher and home.  We, of course, use Standards Based Report Cards (SBRC), which allows us to report how a student is performing on specific standards they are expected to learn and the teacher is expected to teach.  This type of report card gives a much clearer picture of what a student is able to consistently do as opposed to a number grade that represents the average of what a student is able to do.  We will also be asking that you take time to visit with your child's teacher for a fall parent/teacher conference to celebrate your child's successes and communicate areas they can improve.  If you have any questions about this reporting system, I'd be glad to visit with you as well.
Do you want a chance to throw a pie in Mrs. Craft's face or Dunk Mrs. Craft in the dunking booth?  If you answered yes to either of these questions, then make sure that your family comes to our Fall Family Festival.  I will be in the the Pie booth from 6:30 - 6:45 and the Dunking Booth from 6:45 - 7:00!  I look forward to seeing everyone at our Fall Family Festival. It is a night full of fun and fellowship.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me.
All My Best,
Wendy Craft

NEW! Report Card Handbook
Today,, you will find your child's grade level report card handbook for 2017 - 2018. I highly encourage you to review this  document before your conference. As a reminder, the Lovejoy Independent School District utilizes a standards-based report card in Kindergarten to Grade 4.  The standards, based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills/TEKS, describe what a student should know and be able to do at each grade level in all subjects.  Behavior and work habits that support learning are also reported, but this performance is reported separate from academic performance. The purpose of the report card is to communicate with parents and students about the mastery of knowledge and skills and the behaviors and work habits that contribute to academic performance.  The standards-based report card is designed to give parents, teachers, and students a clear picture of academic strengths and areas for improvement.  Please click here to find the electronic versions of the handbooks.

NEW! Hurricane Maria Relief
A message from Enrique Vega, Lovejoy High School Senior:
" My name is Enrique Vega. I am a Senior at Lovejoy High School and have decided to help victims affected by Hurricane Maria. On September 20th, 2017, Puerto Rico was hit by a Category 4 hurricane. This powerful hurricane has left millions without power, little access to water, dwindling food supplies, and no place to call home. I have partnered up with the Salvation Army to collect items to help relieve some of the stress put onto the US territory of Puerto Rico. Some of the most essential items needed include food, water, hygiene supplies, and baby supplies. Large donation boxes will be located at the front of Lovejoy High School from October 10th - 13th. There will also be donation boxes at all entrances to the Homecoming pep rally and the Homecoming game. Please help those affected by this tragedy by donating items. For additional information, please click here ."

Eagle Project: Hurricane Harvey Relief
"My name is Hunter Kight, I am an 8th grader at Willow Springs, and I've just started my eagle project. I have chosen to help the hurricane Harvey victims for my project. Many of the victims did not have flood insurance and this looks to be the most costly natural disaster in U.S. history. The clean-up and rebuild effort will take more than a year. There is a time during disasters like this that charities experience donor fatigue. This is where donations drop to their lowest. Through my project I am trying to reduce donor fatigue, by collecting basic essential items. I have partnered with the Salvation Army to collect supplies like canned goods, baby food/formula, hygiene items, diapers and cases of water. Large donation boxes are located at each school to collect these items. I will leave these boxes out until November 3, 2017. Please consider supporting this effort by filling the boxes and helping the victims." For additional information, please click here.
