If you've experienced the week we've had (rain, clouds and plunging temps), you might not have believed that on the one night
we planned to have our Sligo Community Block Party we had some of the most beautiful weather we could have asked for.
Sa
turday evening's event had a heavenly purpose or multiple purposes that we may never be able to put our fingers on, but God blessed our efforts and we'll have to keep our eyes and ears open for the effects of his blessings.
Beginning with worship in the form of Reset, the evening got off to a good start. Reset is an adult ministry aiming to bring its attendees to a place of rest and relationship. Reset's band led songs to uplift the crowd before Pastor Charles Tapp told a story from his life. After discussion based on Pastor Tapp's story and the sun setting on the horizon, attendees were offered hotdogs, salad
, fruit
and chips.
After the sun set two inflatable jump arounds filled a shut down Greenwood Ave. To the children's and some adult's delight, everyone was invited to burn some calories as they bounced the night away. Sligo's Family Ministry shared some fun with carnival games and popcorn.
A diverse group of attendees filled the church parking lot. From infants to those in their 90s, the crowd gathered and shared a night of fellowship and friendship.
One of the great aspects of the night could
be seen in those who chose to volunteer in food preparation, games, set-up and tear down. Smiles and a sense of satisfaction in a job well done could be seen in each tired volunteer.
The team that came together to make the Block Party a success shared a
blessing with the
community as they made sure that each and every
attendee had a chance to make a connection with a church family that is truly
interested in making a difference to those around them. God's blessings were poured out on an event we hope to see each year.
Although we name one day a year Friends and Family Day, we should all be excited to invite our neighbors, co-workers, family and friends to Sligo Church as we move forward together in reaching beyond our walls.
