Re: New Adult Day Program (ADP) spaces in Richmond
We are pleased to announce that VCH Richmond will be partnering with SUCCESS to create 25 new Adult Day Program (ADP) spaces in Richmond. The new ADP will be co-located at SUCCESS's Austin Harris Assisted Living site in Steveston.
High quality adult day programs (ADPs) are a key component of the services that support Home is Best for seniors and their caregivers. With the support of day program care, seniors with both functional and cognitive needs can be maintained safely in their own communities with the added benefit of respite for the caregivers who are providing many of the supports at home.
In Richmond, the senior's population is growing quickly and we have been challenged to meet their needs. This has resulted in a significant lack of access to ADP for those who need these services the most. The lack of access may also lead to increased demand on in-home supports as well as hasten demand for residential care.
These new spaces will create 37,650 new service hours annually, and will enable us to serve an additional 125 clients per year. Most importantly, these spaces will provide welcome respite for caregivers who may be experiencing burnout.
With new resources to fund additional spaces, an RFP process was undertaken and SUCCESS was the successful proponent. SUCCESS is currently working with the City of Richmond to finalize Steveston property zoning compliance and proceed to renovations to customize the space for the needs of the ADP client population. We expect that clients will have access to the new spaces by May 2017.
There will be more updates on ADP expansion over the coming months as we bring additional ADP spaces on-stream in order to reach our goal of doubling ADP capacity in Richmond by 2017.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact Robert Gill at 604-506-8584.
