It's hard to believe that summer is almost over. Kids are back in school and parents are returning to their normal work schedule.
It has been a really busy summer for Art with a Heart in Healthcare with many wonderful projects happening. Our hearts are full of gratitude and pride with all that we have accomplished.
We thank you for your continued support and we look forward to continuing our art-filled mission over the coming months.
Here's to creating more opportunities to make art!

The Mett family stopped by over the summer with their annual donation of art supplies. They make this generous donation every year in memory of their son. We are deeply grateful to the Mett family for their continued support.
We also had a visit from our buddy Braiden and his family. Braiden was a patient at Wolfson Children's Hospital on and off for six months last year. When he left the hospital he decided to collect money and make donations to various groups that supported him during his time in the hospital. When his parents asked him what he wanted to do next, he said: "Buy art supplies for Art with a Heart." Thank you for thinking of us, Braiden!

The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund
Remembrance Weekend 2017
|
On Saturday, June 24th our team of artists, volunteers, and musician Ajamu Mutima gathered for the annual Remembrance Weekend hosted by The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation at The Mariott, TPC Sawgrass.
This year's event hosted thirty-three Jacksonville area families who have lost a child to cancer. Families gathered to support one another, gain encouragement and tools for dealing with grief and for some respite.
The theme this year was "Love Is: When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure." Family members were each given a treasure box. The boxes were then painted and/or collaged with an Art with a Heart in Healthcare artist available at each table to support the process.
Art with a Heart in Healthcare is honored to be a part of this yearly event. We continue relationships and support these special families and remember all the beautiful children who have been lost to cancer.

The mission of
The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund is to help families tackle childhood cancer by providing comprehensive financial, emotional and practical support.
The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund provides ongoing funding for Art with a Heart in Healthcare services at Nemours
Children's Specialty Clinic. We are so grateful for their support.
The kids have been busy over the summer at Nemours painting birdhouses as auction items for fundraisers held all over the country.
The children who painted for the local fundraiser, Celebrity Golf Tournament at the TPC Sawgrass, were invited to the tournament dinner and met dozens of sports and entertainment stars including Chris Berman, Steve Spurrier and many NY Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars representatives. It was a wonderful experience for the kids.

Erica Ferreira
Erica first learned of AWAHIH while serving in National Health Corps Florida with AmeriCorps. Within her first month of moving to Jacksonville, she swiftly moved through the WCH auxiliary volunteer orientation process and began volunteering with AWAHIH last November.
Erica found that her favorite parts of her volunteer experience were watching the kids and families engage in art making and getting to know the Art with a Heart team.
"It was reaffirming to see the stress relief and uplifting feelings that come from painting and drawing. Even if they weren't actually making art, the socialization and comfort from being in an open and expressive environment undoubtedly provided some sort of diversion from the seriousness of why they're in the hospital at all."

Erica loves to experiment with new mediums. She loves the variety and process of printmaking and really enjoys hand building ceramics. Her favorite medium is oil paint because of the vibrant colors and how much fun it is to blend them.
"Working with Art with a Heart in Healthcare was definitely a highlight in my AmeriCorps experience. It has encouraged me to continue volunteering even though I have completed my hours of service. I am honored to have volunteered with Art with a Heart"!
And we were honored to have you as part of our team. Thank you, Erica!

"Another Side Revealed"
Opening Reception
at MOCA, Jacksonville
It is a great honor and privilege to partner again with The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Jacksonville for our latest patient exhibition
Another Side Revealed
. First Tennessee Bank sponsored the Art with a Heart in Healthcare exhibition at MOCA, Jacksonville for the third year in a row and we are so grateful for their continued support.
During the opening reception, in the Florida Blue Education Gallery on MOCA Jacksonville's fifth floor, excited children buzzed around with their families looking at all the imaginative works they and their fellow artists created. Many of the children that we work with spend weeks and many times months at a time receiving treatment at Wolfson Children's Hospital. AWAHIH is so appreciative of the members of the clinical team at Wolfson's that came out to show their support.
Ten patient artists and their families came to the exhibit this year. There were a few patient artists who were unable to come as they were in the hospital. Our amazing Child Life team at Wolfson Children's Hospital are working on transportation for some of them to visit MOCA to see the exhibit for themselves.
Another Side Revealed is on display through December 3rd at MOCA, Jacksonville. Stop in during downtown Jacksonville Artwalk on the first Wednesday of the month 5-9 p.m
