Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 1 Corinthians 12: 12

November 18, 2016

Dear North Community Catholic School Parents,

Next Tuesday we have two very important events: our annual collection of items for the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish Outreach Program and our academic and athletic recognition assembly for the first quarter.  The Outreach Program assists local families in need, and we are collecting non-perishable food items and also toiletry products for them.  Students who bring in items may wear jeans to school that day.  They may choose to wear their Blessed Sacrament basketball jerseys, Ohio State or Michigan spirit wear, or just have a regular jeans day with their contribution.  We always collect a good number of items each year, and I am proud that this is just one more way we live out our school "FAITH" pledge to "Have a helping hand for those in need."

Our recognition assembly for both academic honors and fall athletics will take place at 1:30 p.m. in the Stoiber-Holzer gym.  We invite you to join us for the assembly if you are able.  Please remember that we only have school on Monday and Tuesday of next week due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  We will not have a newsletter next week because it is such a short week.

Have a very Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving!

Peace and Blessings,
Mrs. Beth Strbik
Principal

Annual BSPA Lottery Fundraiser
This annual event raises important funds for field trips, classroom supplies, and special school events like speakers or performance groups. Tickets numbered 000-999 are sold during November, and numbers selected during the December Ohio Pick-3 evening drawings will determine our winners. Tickets are valid the entire month of December! Winners receive $50.00 and can win more than once. Tickets will be available after each mass this weekend. Order forms for those who wish to purchase or sell tickets will come home with students next week. All funds raised support our students, our school!

Santa's Workshop
On Friday December 2, students will have the opportunity to shop for loved ones at our annual Christmas shopping day! All items are priced between .25 and $5, and students will visit with their classes. Younger students will be assisted by their Bigs in older grades. Families may visit together after school until 3:30.

In preparation, we invite families to make donations of gift bags, gift tags (stickers are best), wrapping paper and small but fun items for our "treasure sale" table. In addition, this year we will have a table of used children's books for sale to support the library.  Send in your donations marked "Santa's Workshop" and they will be collected. As always, volunteers are needed to staff the gift wrapping station. Even an hour of your time is greatly appreciated!!  VIRTUS registration is necessary.

Santa's Workshop Set-up: Thursday Dec. 1 at 5:00 PM (Middle School Gym)
Santa's Workshop: Friday Dec. 2 from 8:30-3:30, plus clean-up
Volunteers email [email protected]

Christmas Program: Set Builders & Supplies Wanted!!
This year our fabulous music teacher has planned a very special program! We are requesting donations of time & talent as well as gift cards (Home Depot or Lowe's) (for white paint, framing lumber and thin 4x8 boards) to help build the set during the week of December 5-10. This will surely be a fun and rewarding project!! Please contact Guy Batterson at [email protected] for more information or to volunteer. Donations can be sent to school to his attention; checks written to NCCS should be marked "Set building".

Saint Nicholas Day Candy Grams

ATTENTION SCRIP FAMILIES

We are coming up on the holiday gift buying season! Make sure if you are buying gift cards for presents that you purchase them through SCRIP & order early. Cards aren't on back order too often, but you don't want to risk the chance of not getting what you ordered in time for your gift giving fun! ORDER EARLY!!!!

Also, please remember that there will not be an order the week of Thanksgiving (November 21-25) or the week we dismiss for the Christmas break (December 19-23 & December 23-30). This leaves us 3 more weeks that we will place orders (11/28, 12/5 & 12/12)! Our first order after break will be January 9th! Stock up now!"

Stewardship Day

Friday, December 2nd is our annual Stewardship day. Students work together on various projects that are contributed to many groups in our community including: Catholic Charities, Parish homebound, Mom's House, Cherry St Mission, Helping Hands of St. Louis and more. We are asking for help with one of our projects this year. Please save any trial/travel size of the following:  toothpaste, bar soap, toothbrushes, deodorant, mouthwash, shampoo, hand sanitizer and combs . Send any of the items to school with your child by Wednesday, Nov. 30th . Thank you for your help and support as we continue to show our students how to live by acting some of the works of mercy.

Yearbook Orders
Yearbook orders are now being taken. Forms were sent home with all students.  The yearbooks are $24.00 this year.  You may send cash or write a check payable to NCCS.

The deadline for ordering is December 9.  The yearbooks will be delivered to students when the new school year begins in August of 2017.  In this way, we are able to include all of our special events.

SCRIP
Shopping for groceries, filling the tank with gas, eating at a favorite restaurant....These routine things we do every week have proven to be a great way for Blessed Sacrament parents to shave off money from their child's tuition.  You purchase gift cards or certificates from places you shop at anyway and the discount goes back to your child's tuition.  More than 200 local businesses participate in the SCRIP program.  Families who purchase the certificates can designate that their portion be applied to their tuition bill.  To purchase SCRIP, contact Katie at [email protected] or phone her at 419-438-0476.

Recycleable Collection Items

"The Environmental Club would like to remind you that we collect the following items to send to Terracycle in exchange for money.  The money earned is used for supplies for our Religion classes and to purchase peanut butter, jelly, and bread for the lunchroom for students who forget their lunch.  We have listed the items acceptable to recycle.  Please send them in with your child.  We ask that you continue saving the items during the summer vacation.  Thank you to those who have been assisting us already."
