Join Civic Works in honoring volunteers for their dedication to Baltimore communities and the lighting of Clifton Mansion's 80-foot tower on December 9.  Learn more .

STEMaction, Inc. will be hosting the FIRST Teach Challenge Qualifier   in Riverdale  where youth robotics teams will compete and be judged on design excellence, competitive play, and sportsmanship on December 17. The event is free and open to the public, and those interested in volunteering can complete a volunteer interest form.

There also will be several FIRST LEGO League events in cities throughout Maryland from December to February. Youth ages 9 to 14 compete on FIRST LEGO League teams to solve real-world engineering challenges and develop important life skills. See the schedule of events.
Opportunities
AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) Atlantic Region is currently accepting service project proposals for 2017. AmeriCorps NCCC is a team-based community service program that mobilizes hard-working young adults to support short-term projects. An AmeriCorps NCCC team may help  communities prepare and respond to disasters; improve infrastructure, such as low-income housing and public parks; protect the environment by restoring streams or wildlife habitats; conserve energy through weatherization projects or recycling programs; or contribute to urban and rural development by supporting services to seniors, youth, or homeless individuals. Nonprofits, state and local agencies, schools, state and national parks, Indian Tribes, and faith-based and other community organizations may apply.  Learn more and submit a concept form .
