Wellness Corner: Tips to maintain a healthy school schedule
We understand that coming back to school can be a difficult transition for some students. With that said, here are a few tips to help smooth the transition back into the school year and to maintain a healthy schedule as the year progresses.
  1. Sleep- Try to have your student obtain 9-11 hours of sleep (depending on age). Remember to limit screen time and caffeine before bed and try to keep a set bedtime and wake time every day, IE: 8pm and 6:30am. sleepfoundation.org
  2. Food- Ensure your student starts the day off right by eating a balanced breakfast at home or make sure they get to school in time for school breakfast (if offered). Divya Syam, school nurse, states that "eating breakfast also boosts your immune system!"

Demolition of old District Office building set to begin
Demolition of the building formerly used as the District Office, at 125 East Bidwell St. in Folsom, is scheduled to begin Tuesday, August 29.

The demolition project is expected to take 3-5 days. The District chose to remove the unused building from its property after determining that ongoing maintenance and upkeep would be cost prohibitive. Additionally, an aging, vacant building poses health and safety issues.

Once demolition is completed, the district will use the property for construction parking and staging as crews continue work on the modernization of Sutter Middle School. In the long term, the District intends to sell the property.

The building has been vacant since 2012, when the new Education Services Center (ESC) opened on Birkmont Drive. All district support services (except for transportation and maintenance) are housed at the ESC.

Meal applications: Help increase funding for your school!

Folsom Cordova is asking our families to apply for free and reduced school meals - even if they're not sure they'll use it.

Why?  Because those applications could increase the amount of money your school receives to pay for resources that help students:  academic coaches, technology, musical instruments, field trips and more!

Schools receive more money and resources based on the number of families who qualify for free and reduced meals - regardless of whether they decide to use the program or not.
