SBA visits Aug. 16th

Amy Bassett, Jim Pineau, Betty Egner, and Jennifer Sherwood  of the SBA will be coming to visit Bucksport businesses on Wednesday, August 16th.

They will begin at 10am at Bangor Savings Bank, which has been a gracious host to many, many client sessions in Bucksport.  Once the group has assembled and met with the great bank employees, they will work their way down Main Street, visiting the businesses that received funding from the SBA grant.

As the SBA's new Maine leader, Amy Bassett really wants to get to know the area so don’t be shy!  Depending upon the time, either before or after a lunch break, they will end their tour at the Chamber’s office. It is fitting to begin and end with such big supporters of this grant program and Bucksport.

Jennifer Sherwood will be taking pictures during the day to be used on social media for the SBA and Maine SBDC.  She will share them with you if you wish to include the event on your channels as well.

You can contact Betty at: Betty.Egner@ceimaine.org.

The film explores his life from childhood, and his story and art is an inspiration to people of all ages. Richard Kane will be at the event to share his journey with Mr. Bryan and answer questions. See the trailer at http://www.mainstreetbucksport.org/bucksport-arts-festival.

Outdoor Bake Oven Cooking

Thursday, August 10 & Wednesday September 20 (2 - 5 p.m.)

Wilson Museum’s John Perkins House

120 Perkins Street, Castine, ME

Baking bread in a hot oven on a hot summer day doesn’t sound very comfortable. But what if you could be outside enjoying the breeze while still getting your baking done? Along the shore, at the John Perkins House on the Wilson Museum campus that’s exactly the scenario.

Director Patty Hutchins will offer two opportunities to see the newly constructed outdoor bake oven in action on Thursday, August 10 and again on Wednesday, September 20 from 2 - 5 p.m.

Learn about techniques and procedures used since colonial times to bake the daily bread without baking the cook as well. Outdoor cooking demonstrations are free of charge.

Better yet, plan on comparing both indoor and outdoor cooking by also attending an indoor fireside cooking demonstration on August 16 (2 - 5 p.m.).

Indoor fireside cooking demonstrations are part of a Perkins House guided tour with admission of $5 per person.

Though fireside cooking days are special days, the John Perkins House is open every Wednesday and Sunday (2 - 5 p.m.) in July and August for guided tours given on the hour - admission is $5 per person.

For more information, visit the Wilson Museum’s Calendar of Events at www.wilsonmuseum.org, call 207-326-9247, or email info@wilsonmuseum.org.

National Fisherman Touch Screen Interactive Goes Live

After weeks of preparation, PMM is launching its first ever touchscreen interactive experience on a big 55" display in the Main St gallery (Whitcomb Pendleton Building). The interactive exhibit will allow visitors to explore the National Fisherman photo collection, with images tagged by location on an embedded map. Other features will be added in the coming weeks, all related to the NF collection.

National Fisherman significantly informs our 2017 exhibit, Gone Fishing, which is on view now. The NF photos were donated here in 2012 by the magazine's parent company, Diversified Communications. In 2013, our photos archives staff and volunteers began digitizing the 20,000 photographic prints, slides, and negatives; the process is nearly complete.

As programs are scheduled and information become available, it will be added to

From the Ellsworth American:

Nick Tymoczko has had a busy summer.

The 31-year-old became the recreation operations director for the YMCA in Bucksport this May, which gave him about a month to prepare for a summer season filled with activities and programs for local kids and adults.

Luckily, he had some help along the way.

“It’s definitely not a one-person gig,” Tymoczko said. “It takes a community to really step up and support something, and Bucksport really came forward.”

It really is possible to talk to your animals
Local animal communicator, Naomi Graychase, was always "sensitive." And she loved animals, but it wasn't until a series of heart-breaking events occurred, that she discovered she had the ability to open her heart into the practice of animal communication.

She was trained by an expert animal communicator in Massachusetts, and for the last five years has been working professionally as a telepathic animal communicator based in Bucksport.

She works over the phone, so distance is no object. And she can even talk with animals who are no longer in their bodies. And while her business is called, "Peace, fellow mammals," she can talk to any beings, living or passed away, not just mammals!

Learn more or book an appointment at her website, Peace, Fellow Mammals, or find her on Facebook.
