August Public Art Committee happenings in Missoula, Montana

News & Updates
Traffic Signal Box Project 2017

It's that time of year again... That's right, fresh, new Traffic Signal Box art! This year, the Public Art Committee commissioned two new boxes to be painted. The locations of these boxes are North & Russell and South & Garfield [Missoula, MT]. Although the blank Traffic Signal Box selection was fairly limited this year, artists' did not disappoint with their gorgeous submissions!

We have narrowed down the application pool to our two talented finalists: Ann Karp and Rachel Neal. The City of Missoula Public Art Committee would like to thank all of the artists who submitted applications this year! The talent and hard-work put in to each and every submission, truly made decision making a challenge. The Committee is thrilled to move forward with the completion of these two new Traffic Signal Boxes. We also have a returning artist, Melissa Madsen, who will be re-painting her box on Miller Creek & Brooks.

Here are a couple important dates to keep in mind as we move forward: Friday, August 25th through Wednesday, August 30th will be when the painting/vinyl installation actually commences. You are more than welcome to observe and admire as the artists work. Please keep in mind, the artists need space to create their masterpieces!

Also, DON'T FORGET - on Friday, September 1st, which is September's First Friday, the Traffic Signal Box Dedication will be taking place at the Dana Gallery at 6pm. Everyone is encouraged and welcome to attend! The artists will be speaking a few words about their work and members of the Public Art Committee will be present to answer any questions.

The Missoula Public Art Committee looks forward to the completion of two new, beautiful Traffic Signal Boxes. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
