UU Organizations Retirement Plan Updates
February 2017
Thank you for subscribing to UU Organizations Retirement Plan information. We welcome your engagement with the Plan.

Love in Action
February rolls in and talk of caring for others is in the air.

One of the ways congregational employers care for those they employ is by ensuring that every employee is well informed about the UU Retirement Plan that they offer.

If you are newly responsible for administering your congregation's Plan, please know that new hires, not already enrolled in the UU Plan, may go to http://www.tiaa.org/uua
to review the investment choices and to enroll online. See more about the online enrollment option below.

Use your Employer Participation Agreement to jump start a discussion of the Plan's details with your employees.

If you do not have your Employer Participation Agreement readily available, please email lrose@uua.org with your:
  • UUA congregational ID,
  • name,
  • your title/role,

and request a copy of your Employer Participation Agreement which is on file in the UUA Retirement Plan Director's office.

Online Enrollment Option - Now Available
TIAA now supports online enrollment for your new hires who have not previously enrolled in the UU Plan.

Employees view investment options available in the Plan before enrollment:
tap Explore Benefits

Employers provide the following to their employee(s) before enrollment:
    1. Summary Plan Description (SPD) (pdf)

    2. Annual Plan Notice (pdf)

    3. Employee Contributions Agreement (pdf)

When the employee is ready to enroll, they are to have the following on hand so that they will be able to complete enrollment:
  1. Full legal name (nicknames are not appropriate for this financial benefit)
  2. One's own Social Security Number (SSN)
  3. Full legal names and SSNs of beneficiaries
  4. An idea of which investments one will choose (see note above)
  5. Then go to:
tap Ready to Enroll

Please direct inquiries as follows:

Plan provisions, Employer Participation, retired clergy tax suppression on distributions:
Employee enrollment, establishing an authorized remitter/Admin, making a withdrawal:

Logistics of remitting contributions to TIAA - the Plan's recordkeeper:

Remitting Contributions
Who is the "Admin" for remitting?

Each employer is responsible for assigning someone as their "Admin" responsible for calculating and remitting the contributions to TIAA.

Only named Admins are able to work with the two  individuals that TIAA has assigned to support our participating employers in the task of remitting contributions properly.

Contact  assistplan@uua.org to verify that our records reflect the current contact information and name of the person who is responsible for remitting contributions for your employees. We'll then help that person to reach out to the TIAA professionals that serve the UU Plan's administrators.

More and more of our employer congregations are engaging in TIAA's system of electronic remitting to simplify the task.

If you are not yet remitting electronically (uploading the file using TIAA's system) then please remember: The TIAA Remittance Form must accompany any contribution checks in order for the funds to be posted properly.
