Thank you for the cleanup!
Big thanks to everyone who braved the rainstorm and came out to clean up our grounds at ICS last Saturday. We had a fantastic turnout, despite the weather. Our hardy crew focused their efforts on the west side of the school grounds and it looks considerably improved. Much appreciated!

ICS Field Trip - Government in  Action!
Mr. Over's 7th grade IS class recently visited the  Maleng  Regional Justice Center and the King County Election Facility to see government in action. The students got to see how scrupulously mail-in ballots are counted and how hard workers strive to determine "voter intent."  The field trip was funded by the PTSA.
The students made a strong impression - read below for some of the feedback:
  • We enjoyed your students today.  Everyone was impressed with how engaged they were and how many good questions they asked.  It must be a lot of fun to teach such eager learners.
  • We had some good diversity to show your students, in the various roles here at the courthouse...especially glad to have connected with the really bright, articulate young women in your class.
  • We even got a call from our jail officer to say how great your kids were.
  • We would be happy to host your students anytime - how wonderful to have young people so interested in learning.
Thank you to Mr. Over for furthering the students' appreciation of Washington state civics.

VOLUNTEERING
ICS Library Advisory Group - Parents needed
The ICS library is looking for a team of 3-5 middle school parents to facilitate the planning, development, and implementation of extended activities and programs offered through the ICS library. The activities will encourage student exploration and offer hands-on extensions of the curriculum. Examples include makerspace activities, lego walls, and 3D printing. Participation in the yearlong endeavor would count towards volunteer hours.
The team will meet to plan, develop, and implement the programs. The meetings will be scheduled during the school day and happen once every other week at first. We will also arrange visits to other schools or organizations who offer makerspace programs to generate ideas as well as other sources that discuss best practices. Each team member will take on tasks and /or development of specific programs as identified in our plan.
If you are interested in being a part of this group, please complete this survey by November 15th. If you have questions, contact Cindy Simon.

Student Study Center Volunteers Needed
Volunteers needed on M, T, Th & F from 2:05 to 3:00 pm The student leaders manage the tutorial assignments, but parent volunteers are needed to monitor and supervise the area to ensure that learners and tutors can work together productively. We need o ne parent per day.  It would be ideal  to have two parents signed up  so that parents could alternate weeks.  If your child stays for music this may be a great way to earn your volunteer hours.  We are ready to begin once we have all days covered by volunteers.
Please email our Volunteer Coordinators, Kathy Thompson and Julie Kotler if you would like to sign up and indicate which day(s) you are available.
Lunch Time Game Keepers Needed
These volunteers work during the ICS lunch period and are responsible for setting up the ping pong tables and overseeing the 'rental' of the outdoor balls (soccer, basketball).  This is done by exchanging a student ID card for the item.  At the end of the lunch period, the volunteer takes down the ping pong tables and makes sure the balls are returned. We need o ne person per day  ( M, T, Th , F from 11:30-12:05, and W from 12:05-12:30, but arriving a little early to set up the tables).  We are ready to begin once volunteers are arranged to help out each day.
Please email our Volunteer Coordinators, Kathy Thompson and Julie Kotler if you would like to sign up and indicate which day(s) you are available.
