This past weekend we celebrated Millford's 175th Anniversary in grand style, capping a very important year for this magnificent Greek Revival mansion, one of the jewels in the crown of Classical American Homes Preservation Trust. It was a spectacular fall day with family and friends who came to mark this important milestone for Millford.
There was something for the nearly 140 guests at Millford's 175th birthday -- a delicious picnic of Low Country cuisine, tours of the house and grounds, a benefit lecture, and festive music from Seán Heely, U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion,
who accompanied Dick Jenrette and guests in singing Happy Birthday to Millford. ...

Music at Millford
Pinewood, SC
Sunday, September 18, 2016
The Fifth Music at Millford, held on Sunday, September 18, was a wonderful celebration of classical music and classical architecture with a fun and engaging group of friends and enthusiasts.
Robert deMaine
, as Artistic Director, worked tirelessly with us over the course of the year to organize a special program to honor Millford in its 175
th
year. Robert dazzled us with his talents for the third year in a row, along with
Nathan Cole
and
Ben Ullery
who were marvelous in their first concert in the double parlor. The program was made even more special as the string trio opened with an original composition by deMaine,
Fanfare for Millford
, which included an excerpt from
Happy Birthday
- what a fun surprise!

Traditional games, such as potato sack races, for children of all ages at Ayr Mount. |
Living History Day
Ayr Mount
Hillsborough, NC
Saturday, September 10, 2016
Piedmont Living History Day was celebrated across Hillsborough, North Carolina on Saturday, September 10th. Visitors were encouraged to explore more than 250 years of Piedmont, NC history during this event.
Private and public sites around Hillsborough were open with activities such as candle making, butter churning, quilt making and more. Period games, demonstrations and walking tours were offered at many of the historic sites in town including Ayr Mount.
The history of 19th century childrens' entertainment was present in games like Battledore and Shuttlecock, Marbles, Go To Bed and Sack Races. For those wishing to experience hands-on activities similar to those experienced at Ayr Mount in the early 19th century, visitors were able to write with a quill pen and ink, do some embroidery, color paper dolls with period clothes, and make a cowrie shell necklace.
Everyone who came out said it was lots of fun and one child exclaimed, "I bet I learned 50 things today!"

Peter Kenny with Diana Smith and Paulette Cushman, Friends of Boscobel House and Gardens. |
September - December 2016
New York
to South Carolina
As we transition into the last quarter of our 2016 tour season, each of the houses remain busy with tours and special events. Since Labor Day, we have had the pleasure of the following groups to Edgewater: The Clark Art Institute, the Rockford Art Museum, Highlands- Cashiers Chamber Music Festival, The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Historic New England, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Collectors from Laguna Beach, California.
At the Baker House, there was also a presentation and cocktail reception for the Friends of Boscobel House and Gardens, a restored Federal-period house on the Hudson River built between 1804-1808, and a great time was had by all who attended.

Not having the draw of the northern fall foliage that brings visitors to the Hudson River Valley, the Roper House was nonetheless not to be out-done and welcomed students from

Chamber Music Charleston for a cocktail reception celebrating their 10th Anniversary,
The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art,
The Guggenheim Museum, participants of the
