Dear Saint Rose Families,

It may be hard to believe, but we are in the early stages of our registration season for the 2017/18 school year.  Preschool registration for our current families begins on Thursday, December 1.  Instructions for our current preschool families were sent home earlier this week.  Open registration for all grades for current families and parishioners begins on January 4.  Open registration starts on Sunday, January 29 at our Open House.
We completed our review of our school tuition for next year.  A market analysis and comparison with Catholic and private schools in the area was completed.  The proposed tuitions were analyzed by the school and parish administration.  This is not a process that is taken lightly.
Three years ago Saint Rose School pledged to keep tuition increases between three and six percent.  This was part of our strategic planning processes.  This year we are planning to have an increase, across preschool through our elementary school, below 5%.  The kindergarten through eighth grade tuition will be $3,700.
Saint Rose School has been able to maintain only moderate tuition increases each year due to a great deal of hard work and planning.  Our enrollment continues to increase across all grade levels. Managed and planned student growth helps us to be as cost efficient as possible.  We continue to monitor our expenditures and be good stewards with our resources. The Annual Fund and Moonlight and Roses help to support many different annual costs from teacher salaries to student retreats.
Catholic schools around the country prove to be cost effective methods of instruction.  The average cost to educate a Catholic school student is $2,000 less than a similar public school student. The average tuition at a Catholic school is often less than independent private schools.   Catholic school students tend to outperform public school students in standardized tests, such as the SAT.  Our fall MAP tests at Saint Rose indicate that Saint Rose students outperformed the national public and private school average as well as  our own diocesan average in math, reading, language arts, and science in every grade level.
Most importantly, Saint Rose provides an incredible opportunity to shape and form a child within the teachings of the Catholic Church.  Our students experience weekly Mass, the sacraments, pilgrimages, Christian service opportunities, retreats and Christ centered classrooms.  Just this week our second grade celebration its First Reconciliation.
I understand that you made a choice for your family to attend Saint Rose School. This choice comes with sacrifice and some tough choices.  I also know that it has the potential for life changing rewards for your family.

Sincerely,

Dr. Bryon Borgelt
Principal

Year of Mercy

Corporal Work of Mercy:
Bury the Dead
Spiritual Work of Mercy:
Pray for the Living and the Dead

While this Extraordinary Year of Mercy officially ends on November 20, Saint Rose School will continue to celebrate the works of mercy through Lent.

In these last weeks of the liturgical year, our Church focuses on the "end times."  On November 2 the Church celebrated All Souls' Day --- when we pray for all those souls in Purgatory.   A beautiful prayer to teach your children is the "Eternal Rest" prayer:
"Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon them.  May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen."

November Charity:  November's donations from alternate dress and Mass collections will be used to start a fund to help with burial expenses at the Saint Rose Cemetery for those with financial difficulties.  Deacon Charlie McDaniel will work with the Student Council to organize and name the fund.

PCU/ST. ROSE SCHOOL
Thanksgiving Food Drive
November 7-21, 2016

Perrysburg Christian's United (PCU) was founded in 1973 with the mission statement to "provide assistance to individuals, families, and the community to foster comfort of mind, body, and spirit during needful situations." PCU is comprised of eleven local churches and operates the largest food pantry in northern Wood Country.
Donations to fill the pantry are always in great demand, but particularly so during the holidays. Items currently needed are:

Canned food staples (fruit, vegetables, tuna)
Boxed food staples (rice, noodles)
Boxes of cereal
Peanut butter
Personal care items
(shampoo, toothpaste, bar soap, toilet paper, deodorant)

Donations can be placed in the blue bins which will be located in each classroom.

Thank you very much for your kind and generous support!
