Cycling Adventures can provide memories for a lifetime

Cycling Adventures for 2017
For me, nothing compares to riding my bike in a beautiful area. I get to smell and hear and feel my surroundings. On multi-day trips I get to enjoy a rhythm of ride, eat, sleep and repeat. As a result, when I produce a cycling adventure, we take care of everything so that all you have to do is ride, eat, sleep and repeat. Our road crew is on route providing break points every 10 miles. On some trips, we even shuttle participants past the big hills so that they ride the route they prefer. Our goal is for your vacation to provide pleasant memories for a lifetime.

For 2017, we are offering 2 cycling adventures that offer great scenery and pleasant rides on low traffic roads. Both packages offer transportation from Plano to the tour, all lodging and meals, fully supported rides and transportation back to Plano. You'll find details below.

We also have a one day cycling adventure on January 1, 2017 in Blue Ridge, TX - found in northeast Collin County. Our Happy New Rear Ride is a local tradition that provides black-eyed peas and cornbread for all the participants. Check out the information below.

Finally, we've got some information on pedals and why you want to make sure you are connected for the most efficient ride possible.

Big Bend Cycling Adventure
September 23 - 30, 2017

This trip offers 2 days of cycling, followed by two days of hiking (optional) in the Chisos Mountains before finishing up with 2 more days of cycling. Quiet roads and well maintained hiking trails offer views unlike any others in Texas (the photo here was taken on the Lost Mine Trail - one of the 2 hikes I lead during the trip). Texas Monthly lists 2 of the routes we ride as the "Best in Texas". We top off the week with dinner at the infamous Gage Hotel in Marathon, TX.
Blue Ridge, TX - January 1, 2017

We launched our Happy New Rear Ride back in 2000 as an opportunity to give the new year a healthy start. We offer 3 routes and a post ride meal of black-eyed peas and cornbread (carnivore & vegetarian recipes) for all our riders. Blue Ridge is located in Northeast Collin County and about a one hour drive from Plano. Register before December 1 and you can order one of our long sleeved T-shirts. We offer a 10am start so that you can have a little time to relax and enjoy the morning.
Natchez Trace Adventure
October 10-15, 2017

The Trace is one of the finest cycling roads I have experienced. Smooth pavement, low traffic levels, no trucks or billboards - just quiet scenery and my cycling friends. Historical turnouts along the way provide a ride back into history. We spend a day getting there and another getting home, but the 4 days of cycling in the middle will put a smile on your face.

Pedals
Connect for Efficiency

When I began cycling in 1974, I was convinced that "toe-clips", the type of pedal in the picture, were a plot to make me crash. I took them off. Cycling with a flat pedal and no connection to the "drive train" caused me to wear out my legs. With a flat pedal all you can do is "push" the pedals down for about 40 degrees of work. I was moving my legs a lot but getting very little power to the bike. Once I put them back on and got connected, I could deliver power to the pedal all 360 degrees. This meant that I could ride farther and faster with less fatigue. Newer pedal systems are easier to use than toe clips and come in a variety of systems - with each of them connecting you to the drive train of your bicycle. That way, ALL the leg movement has the ability to transfer power to the bike, making you a more efficient rider. Click the link below and learn more about pedals and gears.

I hope that you will consider joining us for a cycling adventure in 2017. I promise that we'll have lots of wheel fun.

Ride on!
