The Epic Rises 
The building footprint for the city's new Epic project at Grand Central Park, State Highway 161 between Arkansas Lane and Warrior Trail, is becoming a reality as construction progress continues on phase 1.  The Epic will include a large aquatic center, playground for children of all abilities, amphitheater that will host concerts and additional trails. Thanksgiving Holiday Closings 
In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the city of Grand Prairie administrative offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24-Friday, Nov. 25.  There will be no garbage collection on Thursday, Nov. 24.  More Thanksgiving holiday schedule info.
Cycle with Mayor at Prairie Lights, Decorate Your Bike for Prizes 
Be some of the first to see all new displays at the 2016 Prairie Lights. The Sneak-a-Peek Run and Walk events are sold out, but Grand Prairie residents still have a chance to preview Prairie Lights at the Sneak-a-Peek Cyclin' with the Mayor event on  Monday , Nov. 21. 
 
Bring your own bike and helmet to cycle with Mayor Ron Jensen at Prairie Lights, 5610 Lake Ridge Parkway. The ride starts at 6 p.m., and the first 100 participants will receive a free long-sleeve Cyclin' with the Mayor t-shirt. 
 
Riders who decorate their bicycle for the holidays can enter to win prizes for "Best Group," "Most Creative," and "Best Christmas Characters" categories. To enter the contest, arrive by 5:30 p.m. to sign up at the Get Fit GP tent. Then meet at the stage after the ride for judging.

New Development 
Swedish home furnishings retailer IKEA is building a 293,000-square-foot store east of SH 161 at Mayfield Road, north of Interstate 20. Opening is scheduled for fall 2017.

Construction is underway on a new FnG Eats Restaurant on Main Street downtown. The new 5,300-square-foot restaurant will open in the historic Fire Station No. 1 with indoor seating for 150 and covered outdoor seating for 70. Opening is scheduled for spring 2017.

Panera Bread, Starbucks and R-Taco will open new locations on the southeast corner of South Carrier and Westchase Drive in early 2017.

A new Whataburger restaurant will open in spring 2017 on Belt Line and Interstate 30, just east of QT.

El Pollo Loco is building a 2,899-square-foot restaurant on 2125 North State Highway 360, just south of the new Dairy Queen.

Pollo Regio will construct a new restaurant between Family Dollar and O'Reilly on the east side of South Carrier Parkway.

Waffle House plans to open a new restaurant in early 2017 north of Pioneer Parkway and east of Belt Line road next to Burger King.

Building is in progress on a new Walmart store east of State Highway 161 between Arkansas Lane and Pioneer Parkway. Scheduled to be complete in late spring 2017, it will include a grocery store, retail, fueling station and automotive center. The city expects restaurant development in the near future on the 11 outlots near the store.

Family Dollar is building a new store on the southeast corner of Belt Line and Marshall.

A new 6,950-square-foot First Choice Emergency Room on the southwest corner of Jefferson and South Carrier Parkway is scheduled to be complete in 2017.

Methodist Convenient Care will construct a new 45,700-square-foot medical clinic with urgent care, diagnostic imaging, physical therapy and physician offices on Lake Ridge and Polo.

Hilton Tru will build a new 98-room hotel on the east side of State Highway 360 North, just south of Avenue K.

Hyatt Place is constructing a new 100-room hotel at 2300 Interstate 20.

A new 91-room Comfort Suites will be constructed at 702 Paddock Way.
