Chester Twp. is now a member ofMemorial
NJ Sustainable Energy Joint Meeting*

The New Jersey Sustainable Energy Meeting is a energy buying group of
municipalities that aggregate their individual energy needs together for improved purchasing power.
The result? Lower natural gas and electricity supply prices for government buildings.

An analysis by the Township CFO indicated a potential savings of $2,500 per quarter for electricity (JCP&L) and $1,800 per quarter for gas (PSE&G).

Under New Jersey's energy deregulation law, the supply portion of the electric or natural gas bill is separate from the delivery portion.  With the supply portion open to competition, customers can shop around for the best price on their energy supplies.  Their electric and natural gas distribution utilities will still deliver those supplies through their wires and pipes - and respond to emergencies, should they arise - regardless of where those supplies are purchased.  Purchasing energy supplies from a company other than the electric or gas utility is purely an economic decision; it has no impact on the reliability or safety of service.

Members are notified of the targeted buying price ahead of contracting with a supplier and have the opportunity to participate or opt-out.

150+ municipalities are currently NJSEM members, including Chester Borough, the Mendhams and Washington Twp.

*Thanks to our CFO and the Utility committee for their work in investigating and recommending this program.
