October 13-15, 2017. During this time, users 
may not  be able to access the system (including courses, transcripts, etc).

The College of Public Health at  The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center LPS was awarded $1.2 million from the Oklahoma State Department of Health Civil Monetary Penalties Fund to implement a hands-on training that builds empathy and improves skills for dementia care.

Delivered at 120 nursing home locations throughout Oklahoma, the free "Step-Up for Dementia Care" program includes two curricula. "Walking Through Dementia" helps staff build daily care skills, increase understanding of the disease state, increase sensitivity toward residents living with dementia, and reduce their own care provider stress. "Bathing Without Battles" focuses on creating a better bathing experience for nursing home residents using non-pharmacological methods known to reduce agitation and aggressive behaviors. Additional "Train-the-Trainer" sessions for key staff use these curricula plus Tulane's SCPHTC-developed online training modules to ensure that facility staff can share and sustain the new knowledge as future employees are hired. Targeted quality measures include dementia-related deficiency citations, antipsychotic medication use, and deficiencies associated with abuse and neglect.
