Whether you are new or returning to OSU, we are delighted to welcome you to Autumn 2017 and to the College of Arts and Sciences! With over 80 majors and 100 minors, we invite you to explore, to question and to create in innovative ways. You will not only uncover the many benefits of a large and diverse university, but life-long friendships that emerge from taking part in the smaller groups that make up our college community. We encourage you to immerse yourself in this exciting and transformative experience. We look forward to sharing this journey with you.

Student Organization Highlight - Arts and Sciences Student Council
Still looking for a student organization? The
Arts and Sciences Student Council (ASCSC) is open to all undergraduate students. ASCSC focuses on building community among arts and sciences students and connecting with the college through academic, social and service activities. They host free and informal "Meet the Prof" faculty dinners as well as an annual OSU Graduate and Professional School Fair that attracts hundreds of OSU students. They administer the annual Outstanding Teaching Awards recognizing ASC faculty and graduate teaching associates and also serve as student representatives on several college committees. One of the goals of the Arts and Sciences
Career Services Office is to meet students where they are, and since we know students are active on social media we are too! Don't miss the
Buckeye Careers Campus Job Fair! Check out great opportunities from university departments and employers close in proximity to campus that offer flexible schedules, resume-building experiences, short commutes from on- or near-campus residences and dynamic work atmospheres. Employers are offering both work study and regular wage positions. Come prepared to discuss various student employment opportunities.

Starting Out Strong - Resources to Help You Succeed
Are you in a class that you think may be challenging? If so, there are numerous resources to help you succeed. For example, you can receive free help with writing, math, statistics and chemistry courses. Writing Help
Need help with a writing assignment? The
Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing (
CSTW) offers free help at any stage of the writing process. They can help you with research papers, lab reports, STEP proposals, team projects and more. Students may work with a trained consultant by appointment, on a walk-in basis and through online sessions. The Center also maintains resources to help you with common writing challenges from constructing a thesis statement to correcting common writing errors. List of

Math and Statistics Help
Do you expect to need help with a math or statistics course? Get yourself on the right track early. The Mathematics and Statistics Learning Center (MSLC) provides free support to students in many math and statistics courses. In addition, they provide online resources, practice exams, workshops and exam reviews for most of the large enrollment mathematics courses. For more information visit:

Attend the campus-wide career fair that connects Ohio State students across all majors with employers seeking to recruit students for career employment and internships.

Department of Molecular Genetics Open House
Join Department of
Molecular Genetics (MG) faculty and current undergrad majors to learn about research, funding opportunities and the wide array of career opportunities open to MG majors. View demonstrations on the various molecular genetics model organisms and specialized instrumentation used in their research. Talk with undergraduates who are doing research in their labs. Enjoy snacks while you learn how the MG program can prepare you for graduate programs, medical school, or a career in public health, genetic counseling, research or many other career paths. All are welcome regardless of declared major!

Theatre Auditions - Open to All Students
The Department of Theatre is seeking actors for its autumn semester productions, including the Ohio State Shakespeare School Tour:
Comedy of Errors, Marisol, the InterACT Theatre Project and the Lab Series. Department of Theatre auditions are open to all students enrolled at Ohio State, regardless of major or rank. Students must be in good academic standing with the university in order to audition and be cast. Autumn semester auditions and callbacks will be held August 24 - 27 in the Drake Performance and Event Center. Students wishing to audition must
register
in advance. Complete details about the productions are available on the registration website.

Any student renting property in the University District can request a free 20-minute home walk-through. Student Life and Columbus Fire department representatives will assess the property, offer free safety devices, discuss proactive safety and security strategies, and answer your questions.
