News from Members

MCC member Peggy Lucas wants members to know that Casablanca will be showing at Commons Park on August 24 at 7 pm. Bring a chair and enjoy an evening of open air film with your neighbors. Food trucks will be on site, but you are welcome to bring your own picnic and beverages (this is one event in Minneapolis where BYO beer and wine is permitted).

MCC member Claudia Kittock invites members to join her for a one-night, one-hour performance titled Be You, Be Seen, Belong, created by young adults from YouthLink, who have or are currently experiencing homelessness, and youth residents of Minneapolis' Cedar Riverside neighborhood. Through a two-week intensive class on acting and theater craft, the participants formed the Mill City Youth Players and have written and developed an original theater piece inspired by their personal stories, featuring music, dance, spoken word and more. As the culmination of their efforts, they will perform for an audience for the first time. Stay for a discussion after the performance to learn about the players and the creation of this special event. Tickets are free but reservations are required. Call the Guthrie Box Office at (612) 377-2224 to reserve tickets today for the 7:30 pm performance on August 24. The Mill City Youth Players is a pilot program established by the Friends of the Mill District, YouthLink MN and the Guthrie Theater

Are you a lawyer? If so, MCC member Patty Connelly wants you to know about the First Friday Coffee and Case Discussion Series at The Advocates for Human Rights (330 2nd Ave S, Suite 800). The event gives new and existing volunteer lawyers a chance to revisit cases that have been stuck in the procedural backlog, brainstorm creative legal arguments and identify potential solutions to case challenges. The discussion is from 9:00-10:00 am the first Friday of each month. Learn more here.

MCC member Ellie Hands shares that the Midwest Renewable Energy Association is bringing its famous Energy Fair to the Twin Cities this year. The event is free and includes 60 exhibitors, 80 workshops, live music and an electric vehicle show. The Fair will take place September 9-10 at Harriet Island Park in St. Paul. Metro Transit is free to and from the event. More details can be found here.
