Alumni Association Dues to Increase in 2018
By majority vote in the association annual business meeting in May 2017, members voted to increase the dues from $50 to $75 per year.

President Jennifer York, D.C., explains, “After the treasurer’s report and while the floor was open for new business, a motion from the floor was made to increase the association dues amount from $50 to $75 per year, keeping the first two years free for recent graduates.”

Discussion ensued about rising costs and how the association has kept dues at $50 for more than 20 years. Several members spoke in favor of the increase and no one spoke against it. “The general consensus was that it was time for the increase so that the association could better serve its members, the students and the college,” says York. The motion passed and the new dues amount will take effect for the 2018 membership year.

Ambassador Spotlight: Jimmy Craft of Whitesburg, KY
Why chiropractic: I chose chiropractic because it allows me to keep my personal belief of self-healing and that the body has the given intelligence to heal itself when needed. I have always been interested in the health care field and this profession matches or relates the best to my personal beliefs on health.

Favorite thing about Sherman: My favorite thing about Sherman is the close-knit family atmosphere. I come from a small undergraduate school, and there are about the same amount of students at Sherman. From day one, the doctors, students, and staff go out of their way to help in every aspect of your life.

First Quarter Students Attend Unido Meet Your Mentor Event
Fifteen new students from Puerto Rico, Korea and Singapore joined their mentors for lunch during Unido’s Meet Your Mentor event on July 25. Unido’s mentoring program pairs students together and gives upper quarter students the opportunity to guide and help first-quarter students in their new journey at Sherman.

The July event offered a panel session with questions and answers covering subjects such as time and financial management, how to get involved on campus, and general tips for academic success. The students heard from peers who will be assisting them as needed during their first quarter on campus.

The Unido Service and Development Program supports international and Hispanic communities inside and outside of Sherman College. Coordinator Adelle Dandridge says the program helps students develop the habits and professional skills of a chiropractor through interactions with the community, strengthening social relationships and human values in everyday situations.
