November is here and with it comes chilly weather, falling leaves and shorter days.  This is the time of the year when we find ourselves moving indoors as we begin to prepare our nest for the winter ahead.  We crave warm cozy spaces to gather with friends and family, to share a meal and count our blessings.  It is a special time of the year.

However, as natural light fades early and we move our activities indoors, it is important to remember the impact lighting has on our mood and overall well-being.  This month's newsletter is dedicated to interior lighting and its role in a well-designed room.  We offer suggestions on when and why to hire a lighting professional and address several questions that we are frequently asked about lighting.

We also cover the latest happenings at SCL, market trends for 2017, sconces and so much more.

So read on and prepared to be enlightened!

Warm regards,

Kim

"A room is like a stage.  If you see it without lighting, it can be the coldest place in the world." Such a true statement. How many of us have walked into a beautiful room that felt flat and dull?  The furniture and appointments were lovely, but there was something missing. Most likely the lack of warmth and vitality were due to improper lighting. To achieve the nuance of proper lighting, you only need a little knowledge and attention to layering to turn a simple space into something magical.

  • Farrow & Ball, "the esteemed English paint and wallpaper company", is celebrating its 70th anniversary!  It was founded in 1946 by two painters, John Farrow and Richard Ball.  To celebrate, they are releasing a collection of new colors and 3 new wallpapers inspired by the decade when they were founded.
  • Sconces have been around since the start of time.  They started as "mobile lighting devices" and have become decorative wall sconces that have different shapes, styles and made from different materials. Let's look at the classic update of the sconce--both the electrical wall sconce and the candle sconce.
