Greetings from Muskingum President Sue Hasseler *  November 2016

Welcome to the November issue of Magenta LinesWe have been enjoying the beautiful autumn colors on campus as the weather starts to change, reminding us that fall is here.
Early this fall, Muskies of all ages gathered to explore the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium together, with dinner and a meet and greet at the Water's Edge.
Homecoming Weekend
was spectacular! It was wonderful to meet so many alumni who returned to celebrate their connections to Muskingum and to take part in community traditions such as Varsity Revue and the annual crowning of King and Queen.
At the M Club Breakfast and on the field at half-time, we honored our 1966 Fighting Muskie football team and our
2016 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees: Rudy Visnich '56, Larry Cole '77, Carla Kampschmidt '01 and Dani Keiffer Lamonica '01.
The trustees concluded our Fall Board Meeting by joining the Homecoming Parade on their special trolleys. I was thrilled to take my first ride in a magenta and black convertible, thanks to Patti '76 and Mike Thomin '74.
The connections our alumni across the decades have with each other and with our current students are such an important aspect of how we educate the whole person for the whole world. For example, this past summer, the Muskingum County Business Incubator, headed by Larry Triplett '80, sponsored entrepreneurship training and fellowship programs for our students which led to Steven O'Hara '18 interning at award-winning sports multi-media company Storied Rivals, founded by Aaron Spragg '03.
Current students Eric Dowery, Jordan Lee, Andre Buffington and Jaliah (Jay) Oglesby joined alumni Chris Beal '98 and Landel Shakespeare '13 on a panel to talk about their experiences as black students on Muskingum's campus. Landel, who is enrolled in a doctoral program in social work, shared that the support of Muskingum staff members and getting involved made a difference, and he encouraged students to reach out and mentor one another. The panel was moderated by student Ronta Hill-Morton.
Music Department Faculty Dr. David Turrill and Dr. Zebulon Highben brought more than 200 outstanding high school musicians to campus over the course of two weekends. These competitively-selected instrumentalists and vocalists from throughout the Southeastern Ohio region were immersed in intensive music study and public performances with our faculty, students and guest artists.
On Tuesday November 29, please consider participating in #GivingTuesday by making a gift to Muskingum. On this global day dedicated to giving, charities, families, businesses, communities and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give. Our students are ready to use the education that you help provide to them to "give back" to their communities and our world. Look for more information on Alumni  Facebook  and news pages.
Your generous support of the University is what makes Muskingum's transformative and engaged education possible for our students. We are very grateful for your gifts, and we are proud to recognize you in our annual Donor Report 2016, which is now available to  download.

The most recent issue of the Muskingum UPDATE magazine will soon be arriving in your postal mailbox. If you have a new address or don't receive your copy, please  let us know .
I am so very thankful for the many deep connections and traditions that we share as a University community, and I wish you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving, filled with many blessings!
