  ,

Summer has turned to fall in DC and our Scholars are mid-way through their semesters and pushing past mid-terms. We have much to be thankful for in our community of Scholars and Alumni. In a few weeks, we will announce the newest cohort of New Futures Scholars.  Our fall selection brought a record number of applications and we can't wait to share this news with you.

In December, we will celebrate the graduation of 14 Scholars from their post-secondary programs. These amazing individuals are poised for bright futures. And in 2017, we will offer our first-ever CareerLaunch workshop to prepare these recent graduates, along with other New Futures Alumni, for career success.

Last but not least, we are enormously thankful for YOU. This year, we will award nearly $400,000 in scholarships to passionate, dedicated, and deserving young adults in the DC region.  We will provide them with ongoing college and career advising, skill-building workshops, and networking opportunities. New Futures can unlock the doors to opportunity for these incredible individuals because of YOU.  New Futures is supported 100% by individuals, corporations, and foundations who believe in the power of our mission and the change it drives in our region.

So, as I raise a glass during my Thanksgiving dinner, I will be toasting each of you for helping to make our Scholars' dreams come true.

With gratitude,
Julie Green, Executive Director
Our Bright Futures Annual Benefit a Success !

Thanks to you, the 2016 Bright Futures Benefit was by all accounts, a great success! Special thanks to the more than 250 guests who collectively gave more than $215,000 in support of New Futures. Our donors are truly amazing!

Guests enjoyed an interesting program that put the spotlight on our Scholars through a conversation with special guest, Don Graham, founder of TheDream.US

One highlight of the night was the "Raise a Hand" call for donations led by New Futures' volunteer, Meg Hauge. Meg partnered with our Scholar, David Banza, to engage attendees through a choreographed routine to "My Shot" from the hit musical, "Hamilton."

#GivingTuesday:
It's the Season of Giving!

We are on the cusp of an important time of year for nonprofits - Year-end Giving! And we have several opportunities planned for those interested in making a tax-deductible donation before the close of 2016.

Our year-end campaign, will shine the spotlight on six of our talented Scholars and Alumni so keep your eye out for our communications. We hope you find them compelling!

In addition, on Tuesday, November 29 from 6-8 PM,  our Associate Board of committed professionals is hosting a #GivingTuesday happy hour to help make charitable giving fun. Mark your calendars and stop by  Southern Hospitality located at 1815 Adams Mill Road, NW in Adams Morgan.  Thank you in advance for your generous support!
New Futures Alumni Program Launched!

In June, New Futures launched the Alumni Program aimed at supporting New Futures alumni (and soon-to-be alumni) in the pursuit of their career and professional goals.

In the five months this young program has existed, we've reconnected with many alumni. We've created an Alumni Committee that began meeting in October to further support and steer the Alumni Program.  We have held several events that have connected Scholars and Alumni. We've also launched events aimed at connecting alumni within their career field. If you would like more information about the Alumni Program, please email Emily Brown.
Meet a New Futures Scholar:
Ange Ngatchou

Meet Ange Ngatchou, a freshman at Montgomery College. Ange is majoring in Life Science in pursuit of her dream of becoming a Physician's Assistant.

She loves human anatomy and math and enjoys working with young people in her free time. Ange dreams of becoming a medical professional who travels to other countries to offer her services.

Ange says: "New Futures is helping me to achieve these goals by showing me how to network, giving me a scholarship and providing people to support me when I am having trouble."
