California Arts Council Opens Applications for More Grants
|
|
With recent increases in its funding, the California Arts Council (CAC) says that it expects to award as many as 1,000 grants in 2016-17, greatly improving the chances of applicant organizations to have their proposals supported. This year, CAC has is moving quickly to post its guidelines and applications online early, resulting in longer lead-times for organizations to prepare their submissions.

The following grant programs are now accepting applications:
LOCAL IMPACT: Up to $18,000 for arts projects in underserved communities. Deadline: February 15
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND CONSULTING: $1,000-$5,000 for capacity-building professional development or consulting projects for arts organizations. First round deadline is December 14. A reminder to OC arts organizations: Please contact Arts Orange County for advice if you are considering applying for a grant to support consulting services.
Beginning November 15, the following grant programs will begin accepting applications:
ARTISTS IN SCHOOLS - 4 different categories of funding. Amounts vary. Deadline is February 15.
CREATIVE CALIFORNIA COMMUNITIES - Creative placemaking grants. Last year, funding ranged from $30,000-$70,000. Deadline is March 6.
Other programs will open up after the first of the year.

City of Santa Ana Awarded $12 Million for Santa Ana Arts Collective Project
|
| The City of Santa Ana has announced that it was awarded $12 million from the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities Program of the California Strategic Growth Council for the Santa Ana Arts Collective. The project is located at 1666 North Main Street and will repurpose a 1968 commercial building into 57 units of affordable housing ranging from studios to one-, two- and three-bedroom units. SAAC will have several on-site amenities including an art gallery, music room, performing-arts room, media lab, community garden and bicycle parking. AHSC funds will also provide a grant to convert Bush Street, one block from the Santa Ana Arts Collective project, into a bike and pedestrian enhanced street that will provide a safer route to Downtown Santa Ana. The project was one of 25 projects awarded out of a total pool of 85 applications, and the only project awarded in Orange County. |

OC's SVA Architects Earns 2016 Urban Land Institute Global Award for Excellence
|
| Santa Ana-based SVA Architects, Inc. has announced that one of its projects, Celadon at 9th & Broadway (San Diego) has been awarded a prestigious Urban Land Institute (ULI) 2016 Global Award for Excellence. One of eleven winners chosen from over 200 submissions around the world. This award recognizes that Celadon at 9th and Broadway exemplifies worldwide best practices in responsible development, sustainable building, and livable design. A LEED Gold certified building, the project was developed by BRIDGE Housing, with SVA Architects as the Architect, and Studio E Architects as the Design Architect. Ernesto M. Vasquez, FAIA, NCARB, is SVA's Principal and serves on the Board of The Wooden Floor. |

CAC Releases Arts in Public Media Report
|
The California Arts Council (CAC) has
released the findings of an extensive evaluation of the California Arts Council's support of nonprofit media organizations, specifically as it relates to arts and culture coverage and related projects.
The report, Nonprofit Media Coverage of the Arts in California: Challenges and Opportunities, is the first of its kind -- assessing the status of California nonprofit media organizations' engagement with arts and culture, and the funding of such activities. The report may be viewed here.
