NEW -- WHS Athletic Council

This Advisory Council will be made up of 3 parents (two individuals from Wellesley and one from Boston), 2 coaches, 2 students, a teacher, an Assistant Principal, the Athletic Director and the Principal.

WMS & WHS PTO COMBINED MEETING

WEF IS IN BEE MODE!

The 27th annual Wellesley Spelling Bee is Wed, Nov. 9th, 7pm at Sprague School.

The Wellesley Spelling Bee is a Wellesley tradition that brings our community together to celebrate education. It's a unique opportunity every year to see members of the community across all generations participate at the same event with the same level of excitement. Although it is a major fundraiser for public education in our town, equally important to WEF is the event's role in building a sense of community in Wellesley. We hope to see you there!

Support the Bee --  CLICK HERE to make a donation to the Bee. The Bee is WEF's biggest fundraiser of the year!  Any amount is appreciated.

About WEF
Through the funding of programs and grants for over thirty years, The Wellesley Education Foundation ("WEF") has championed innovation, excellence, and inclusion in Wellesley Public Schools from the first day of pre-school, through high school graduation, and beyond. WEF works to unite the entire community in enthusiastic support of our schools.  Nearly $2.1 million has been awarded in grants and assistance to educators in the last 10 years alone.

A MESSAGE FROM POPS

Wellesley POPS provides volunteers and funding for Wellesley Performing Arts programs - band, chorus, dance, drama, and orchestra - at all school levels from K-12.

We serve as advocates for PA staff and programs during the budget process and throughout the entire school year. We invite you to get involved with the volunteer work we do for the students, staff and families of the Performing Arts Department!

We are working hard to increase our presence in all schools-please contact Darlene Howland, POPS President, at [email protected] if you would like more information about ways that you can support your student's teacher and program.

As a non-profit organization POPS is working hard to financially support the efforts of the WPS Performing Arts staff.    Last year POPS awarded $20,186 in Grant funds for new instruments, orchestra microphones and teacher stipends.  Additionally, several need based scholarships for students were given.  Our wonderful PA program is attracting and enriching more students each year!  With this growth the financial needs identified by the staff continue to increase.  POPS needs the financial support of Wellesley parents to continue our good efforts!

NEXT POPS MEETING:  Monday, November 14, 2016 at 7:00pm in the Library (1938 Room) at Wellesley High School

POPS Holiday Party:  Wednesday, December 7

UPDATE FROM OUR CHALLENGE SUCCESS TEAM:

On September 29th, a team of WHS administrators, teachers, parents and students attended the Challenge Success conference at Stanford University.

Over the three-day conference, we heard speakers, participated in round table discussions and worked as a small group to identify causes of stress and anxiety at WHS.   We started the important work of creating a framework to address these issues at Wellesley High School.   Noted author/clinician Catherine Steiner-Adair delivered a tremendous key note address on "Media Rules:  Healthy Connections in the Digital Age" ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCQ1rzg9lSI)

Dr. Steiner-Adair will be coming to Wellesley later this month to conduct professional development workshops with Wellesley teachers and administrators.

What is Challenge Success?  For now, we'd like it to be a conversation.  How do we (as teachers, students and parents) define academic success? Are we too focused on grades, test scores and academic performance? How do we ensure our young people are developing the necessary skills to become resilient, ethical and motivated learners?  The folks at Challenge Success say, "Success is measured over the course of a lifetime, not at the end of a semester."

Over the next few months, our team will be sharing initiatives and special programming to launch Challenge Success at Wellesley High School.  In the meantime...start the conversation!

NOTICE
WINTER SPORTS REGISTRATION

All students are required to have a current physical examination on file in the Nurse's Office prior to participating in the athletic program in order to keep your child safe and protect confidentiality.   This means that before your child can tryout, practice or participate on a team they must have a copy of their physical examination on file as required by the MIAA guidelines.  A physical exam covers the student for 13 months from the exam date.

If your child's physical exam expires during the sport season, your child will no longer be able to participate until a new physical examination has been obtained and is on file in the Nurse's Office.

If you currently have a physical examination on file in the Nurse's Office and it is NOT due to expire you do not need to provide another copy.

Winter sport physicals are due in the Nurse's Office at WHS by Monday, November 14, 2016.   PLEASE NOTE: Late submission of physicals delays the student from any athletic activity until all the registration requirements are completed.

Please also note the nursing staff will NOT be available on the first day of practice, Monday November 28, 2016.

The Athletic Office or individual coaches will not accept physical examination reports.

Physical examination information should be sent to:
