Religious School Happenings
A Message from Religious School Principal, Lois Tompkins

Parents of Grades 1 and 2:
Don't forget our meeting regarding "Hagigat HaSiddur" on Sunday in the Witten Chapel! There will be an exciting announcement about this year's program!

(clockwise from upper left): Moreh Melech teaches a
teknologia lesson; Morah Hannah instructs a craft project with her Kindergarten class; Rabbi Tilman leads middle school minyan; and students in grade 3 enjoy their
Omanut (art) class

Kindergarten families:
Please try to remember to send your child to Sunday School with their red BASRS backpacks.  It helps us to be able to send everything home together!   If you don't yet have one, please contact Chelsea in the Religious School office and she'll be happy to provide one to you.

We still have two opportunities for parents:

1.   Be a Shabbat Box volunteer. Many of our families have already enjoyed the Shabbat Boxes that were sent home over the past few weeks.  Let's keep it going! We have a few parents doing all of the work right now.  Please volunteer (even once/month) to help on Sunday mornings.  Contact me and I'll forward it to the coordinator for the week.

2.   Become an Adult Learner!    A new Beginning Hebrew Reading class started last Sunday, taught by me!  It isn't too late to join us: just show up at 9:15 am, after dropping off your child(ren) to Sunday School, and we'll learn the letters and some very basic grammar together.  It is fun, informal, and it makes you a great role model for your child!  Make it your new year's resolution to learn how to read!  Please try to RSVP to me ([email protected] ) so that I have enough materials for all!

B'Shalom (with peace),
Lois
Learning Tidbit of the Week
Parashah of the Week: Noah

Students in grades K-5 can join me for our Youth Services this week, as we pray and play together on Shabbat from 10:30-11:45 am.  We'll play some games as we learn about our famous Torah portion!

When the flood wreaks great destruction, life is preserved in Noah's Ark.  God establishes a covenant: Never again to destroy the earth.  The generations of Noah's descendants flourish.  They build the Tower of Babel to pierce the heavens.  God thwarts their efforts by confounding "the language of all the earth" and scattering its inhabitants.

Douglas Anderson School of the Arts Presents:
Parade
Come out and support BASRS alumnus Liam Wirsanksy as he stars in the Tony Award-winning musical that explores the endurance of love and hope against all the odds!  Parade  tells the heart-wrenching, true story of Leo Frank: a Brooklyn-raised Jewish man living in Atlanta, who was wrongfully convicted of the murder of his employee, Mary Phagan. Already guilty in the eyes of everyone around him, a sensationalist publisher and a janitor's false testimony seal Leo's fate. His only defenders are a governor with a conscience, and his wife, who finds the strength and love to become his greatest champion. This momentous case of the early 1900s drew national attention and was pivotal to the founding of the Anti-Defamation League.
