From the President's Desk
Connecting Back To Your Passion
By Jeff Yorzyk,
Director of Sustainability, Green Chef, Golden, Colorado
The end of September found about 20 of us at a retreat-style "unconference" titled Beyond Sustainability up in Grand Lake, Colorado. I found it a welcome change from larger conferences featuring panels and keynotes, and appreciated the deep networking that took place during three-hour sessions with other sustainability leaders at a remote location. Connecting back to our passion for sustainability, our personal "why" if you will, is just as important as advancing ourselves professionally. I believe we all left with a fresh perspective on our careers and the challenges du jour. Please let us know if you are interested in this kind of regional programming from ISSP. While we can't scale this kind of event, we are definitely interested in replicating it!

In my work life I look back fondly on my time at Sydney Water where we adopted integrated reporting in the early noughties, progressed some very significant commitments to carbon efficiency and introduced robust ecological footprinting to the mainstream of the Australian water industry. More recently I take great satisfaction in the work I'm doing with the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand to embed climate change adaptation in practice through action learning based professional development.
Why Did You Choose To Pursue the ISSP-CSP Credential?
For me becoming an ISSP-CSP meant joining a global community of practice. As the program matures, I'm sure stakeholders will become increasingly confident that they get reliable insights into best sustainable practice from certified sustainability practitioners. This can only be a good thing.
