Top 5: DPS 2016 Halloween Costume Photos
Kudos to Team DPS for embracing our Shared Core Value of Fun! Team members shared photos of the most creative and collaborative costumes at their schools and offices. These are just a few of the images we received, and we've created a Facebook album so you can enjoy them all. In the photos above, from top left clockwise to bottom left, are the following:

1 - Denver Online High School team members took advantage of an already creepy boiler room at Smedley for scary fun.
2 - Educators at Barnum Elementary went all out in their dedication to Halloween.
3 - Erin Lea-Dougherty at Westerly Creek Elementary is a sea dragon rescuing Pickles, her class pet, who is lost at sea -- also our random giveaway winner!
4 - Iman Bouayad-Flores, a student at Florence Crittenton High School, plays Dalmatian to her son Aurelio's firefighter.
5 - While cleaning out a storage closet at Henry World School, one teammate found gym uniforms from the 1970s -- some still in the original packaging!
6 -  Teammates at William "Bill" Roberts School demonstrate their collaboration with a group Wizard of Oz theme.

Changes Coming Soon to Your DPS Password
Starting in December, DoTS will be launching account lockout policies based on the following settings:
  • Account lockout threshold set to 8. This security setting will lock your DPS account after 8 failed logon attempts.
    • Note: If your account is automatically signing on to other devices, this will also continue to lock the device until reset.
  • Account lockout duration set to 30 minutes. This security setting will automatically unlock a locked account after 30 minutes.
  • Reset account lockout counter set to 30 minutes. This security setting determines the number of minutes that must elapse after a failed logon attempt counter is reset to 0 bad logon attempts.
Reminder: Don't forget to register on the district's self-service password management tool.  The instructions can be found at  http://iam.dpsk12.org. Click on the Training tab and choose Self Service Password Management to access the quick reference guide. This tool will allow you to reset your password online, anytime, after you register and answer your security questions.

Will You Be Affected by the Revised Overtime Rules?
A change to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), which governs federal minimum wage and overtime pay requirements, will go into effect Dec. 1. After Dec. 1 - in addition to other requirements - an employee must earn at least $913 per week (currently that figure is $455 per week) to be paid as exempt (salaried). This minimum weekly salary amount requirement is the same for full- and part-time employees. For additional information, click here

If you are currently a non-exempt (hourly) employee and paid for every hour worked (including overtime for working more than 40 hours in a week), these changes do not affect you. If you hold an exempt position, your manager will notify you by mid-November to let you know if you are affected. This change is to comply with the regulations and in no way adversely reflects the level or value of your work. If you have any questions, contact [email protected].
Living Our DPS Honoree:
Chris Bakke
Math Teacher, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Early College
Students First

Chris Bakke is living our Shared Core Value of Students First.
Chris Bakke, a math teacher at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Early College, is a champion for our kids. In the classroom and behind the scenes, he's living our Shared Core Value of Students First.

Nominate  one of your colleagues to be featured as a Living Our DPS honoree, and read more about Chris' commitment to our kids!

"Chris Bakke embodies the value of Students First at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Early College. A hero and a champion for our kids, everything Chris does is centered around our students. Chris has picked up extra classes so students can receive more support in math and he collaborates with other teachers to ensure that each kid receives the best instruction. Chris stepped down as Senior Team Lead so he could be with the students full-time. As our school scheduler, Chris made sure our students who needed to retake classes would do so with a teacher and not a computer screen. Any time decisions are made, he's the first to ask if it is the best thing for our students. He is a true leader and motivates others to step up as he has done. From inside the classroom to behind the scenes, to lip-syncing and dancing at school pep rallies, Chris is truly Students First."
