APG and SANDEL AVIONICS announced the first purchase order for more than 30 units of Sandel HeliTAWS to be installed by APG on helicopters being flown for the United Nations. BANYAN AIR SERVICE based at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport announced CRAIG D. HUSTON will be the company's new chief operating officer. EAGLE CREEK AVIATION SERVICES, an authorized Twin Commander Service Center in Indianapolis, has completed a third Grand Renaissance Commander for the Colombian Army. LEXAVIA INTEGRATED SYSTEMS' latest enhanced vision systems sensor, the LFS6000, is now available for the Eclipse 550 twin-engine jet. UNIVERSAL AVIONICS named DUNCAN AVIATION its 2013 top dealer in North America award recipient. Duncan's consistent support in upgrading WAAS/LPV opportunities was an essential factor to the company's success this year. In addition, Duncan's partnership with Universal Avionics on a Falcon 900B upgrade program was a significant contributing factor.

ASTM International Announces Personnel Certification Programs for Aviation and Aerospace Technicians
The National Center for Aerospace and Transportation Technologies (NCATT) will become part of ASTM International and continue to provide non-regulatory, industry-recognized personnel certifications for aviation and aerospace technicians.
NCATT began its journey as a National Science Foundation Advanced Technical Education grant project, awarded in 1999. Since that time, NCATT evolved into an independent nonprofit organization led by aviation industry leaders and subject-matter experts. This leadership established the infrastructure and processes that resulted in the adoption of a standard and certification program for aircraft electronics (avionics) technicians. The success of the industry-driven program in a highly regulated and technologically advanced industry is a testament to the aviation industry's dedication and commitment.
The Aircraft Electronics Association Educational Foundation will award scholarships for the 2014-15 school year to students pursuing a career in avionics or aircraft maintenance, as well as technicians from AEA member companies. Scholarship applications are now available online, and the deadline to submit an application is Feb. 15, 2014. Numerous scholarships are available, ranging from $1,000 to more than $35,000 each. Since its inception, the AEA Educational Foundation has awarded more than $1.5 million to students seeking careers in the aircraft electronics and aviation maintenance industry. IMPORTANT: Hazard Communication Standard Training Required by Dec. 1, 2013, for all Employees
AEA Provides FREE Online Training for AEA Members to Meet the Deadline.
In order to ensure chemical safety in the workplace, information about the identities and hazards of the chemicals must be available and understandable to workers. OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) requires the development and dissemination of such information:
- All employers with hazardous chemicals in their workplaces must have labels and safety data sheets for their exposed workers, and train them to handle the chemicals appropriately.
- Chemical manufacturers and importers are required to evaluate the hazards of the chemicals they produce or import, and prepare labels and safety data sheets to convey the hazard information to their downstream customers.
AEA ONLINE TRAINING: To assist members with the phased training requirements set forth by OSHA, the AEA has produced an online training program to cover the major changes to the Hazard Communication Standard.
