Avionics Industry Mourns Death of Marshall Temple

The avionics industry lost a legend on Nov. 16, as Marshall E. Temple, 85, passed away peacefully. Temple founded Temple Electronics, and his company has been a member of the Aircraft Electronics Association since 1974.

He is survived by his wife, Emma Earlene (Jarvis) Temple; children and their spouses, James and Janet Temple, Jerry and Laura Scott, John and Mandy Hall, and Patricia Bumgarner.

Born and raised in Cleburne Texas, Temple was a long-time resident of Pearland, Texas.
In 1945, he joined the U.S. Navy where he learned avionics. Temple had a passion for the outdoors and loved to fish, hunt and golf.

At the family's request, donations to the AEA Educational Foundation Marshall Temple Memorial Scholarship Fund are being accepted in place of flowers. To make a memorial contribution, send a check made payable to the AEA Educational Foundation at the following address:

FAA/Industry 'Equip 2020' Working Group Meets

One of the outcomes from the FAA's Oct. 28 "Call to Action" ADS-B Summit was the formation of the government and industry Equip 2020 working group led by the NextGen Institute. The working group met for the first time Nov. 18 to discuss implementation issues in meeting the agency's ADS-B Out mandate by the Jan. 1, 2020, deadline. The AEA was represented by Ric Peri, the association's vice president of government and industry affairs. The working group will continue to sort through the barriers delaying operators from equipping with ADS-B Out avionics, such as cost and availability of upgrading GPS receivers; streamlined certification procedures; development of more low-cost avionics; improving product availability; clarifying requirements; and ensuring repair station resources are available to complete installations. FAA logo Part 23 Aircraft Retrofit Forum at AEA Headquarters, December 18
The Aircraft Electronics Association plays host to a Part 23 Aircraft Retrofit Forum, Dec. 18, at its international headquarters in Lee's Summit, Missouri. Join officials from the FAA Headquarters Maintenance Branch as well as the FAA Small Airplane Directorate.

The aviation industry struggles with retrofitting the current fleet of Part 23 and legacy CAR 3 aircraft. While the FAA has developed and published many documents for the installation of avionics and other systems such as Advisory Circular 43.13, the FAA does not adequately address the removal and replacement of currently installed systems. This one-day forum will begin the process of developing guidance regarding the retrofit of the current general aviation fleet, including updated guidance on the evaluation of alterations (determination of major/minor).

Who Should Attend? This first look at the retrofit market and the regulations, guidance and policies affecting retrofit will primarily focus on light general aviation aircraft, and as such, this meeting is ideally suited for:
  • Repair stations specializing in Part 23 installations.
  • Avionics manufacturers that produce avionics for the Part 23 market.

Only 40 seats remain available for this complimentary forum -- Register now! More...
