A Message from the President
|
It's hard to believe it is already November and the holiday season is right around the corner.
As we head into this time of
celebration and giving
thanks, I would like to encourage you to support local businesses as well as the organizations in our community that give back throughout the year.
One of the easiest ways to support local businesses is by
participating in Small Business Saturday,
November 26
. This initiative was launched by American Express in 2010 to encourage consumers to shop the small, local stores on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Last year, an estimated $16.2 billion dollars was spent at small, independent businesses on this day! For every dollar spent with an
independent, local business, 68 cents
remains in the community. Imagine the
impact we could make if we all committed
to shopping small and shopping locally this holiday season!
In the spirit of giving, I would like to encourage you to also support the local organizations that do so much good in our community. This is often a time when they receive many requests and their supplies may be running low.
Georgia Gives Day is an easy and great way to give back. This year's event will be Thursday, November 17, and all you have to do to participate is make an online donation to the organization(s) of your choice.
As we strive to make Macon the Best Place For Business, I hope you will consider supporting our small businesses and organizations. I also hope you will make your voice heard and be sure to
VOTE TODAY! There are many important items on the ballot, including a continuation of the local SPLOST, which the Chamber's Board of Directors unanimously supports.
