Survey/Construction Staking

A large part of keeping any infrastructure project running smoothly is ensuring that proper information and data is available and accessible to any decision makers or stakeholders. Conducting both routine and development-specific surveying can make sure that your projects continue to run on time and on budget. Because proper surveying is crucial to any project, Ruekert & Mielke, Inc. (R/M) employs two licensed Professional Land Surveyors (PLS) and four survey technicians, each with over 15 years' experience.

R/M's experienced team of PLS's and survey technicians are ready to help with any and all of your surveying needs. With expertise in construction staking, our crews make sure things get built where they are supposed to be and at the correct grades. Making sure you have accurate staking beforehand can save you both time and money on your project. Additionally, R/M's skilled surveyors can assist communities in topographic surveys, GIS field inventory, property surveys, and so much more.

For more information on how R/M can keep your data and projects up to date and running smoothly, contact Chris Ruetten.

Winter Plowing and Salting: Managing Expectations
After the leaves fall, the snow falls. Now is the time to let business owners, elected officials, and the general public know what to expect out of your plowing and salting operations this winter.

Let your community know:
  • Which storm events trigger a salting-only approach
  • How much snow will result in snow plows on the road
  • Any parking restrictions that go into effect with snow storms
  • Which areas get treated / plowed first: intersections, hills, main roads, side streets, cul-de-sacs, etc.
  • Any special areas that will be treated, such as sidewalks, parking lanes, public parking lots, etc.
  • Remind everyone of safe driving tips during winter weather: slow down, don't text and drive, stay well behind the snow plows, etc.
Sharing your snow plowing and salting plan with members of the community will help everyone understand the priorities during a snow event and will clarify what to expect from the snow plow and salt truck crews. This will also provide local officials with information ahead of time to respond to any complaints that may come in.

Check out the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District "Salt Wise" website or the DuPage River Salt Creek Workgroup website for more information.
