International Connections

TNG Visual Effects   and its subsidiary,
TNG Visual Effects Canada combine to make a
network of
3D scanning services available to the North American entertainment industry. We specialize in the creation of photo-realistic digital assets. Many characters, vehicles, cars, sets, props, animals, sculptures, and other items have been added to our scope of work since our inception in 2010.

Our teams know how to work with producers, directors, coordinators, A-list talent, and other agencies.  We are seasoned, fast and efficient, and our work is always guaranteed.  Our strength is our ability to travel at a moment's notice for a project to many North American locations - call us for your next 3D scanning project, we are here to make you look good!
TNG: Making You Look Good Since
2010

Nick Tesi , Founder TNG Visual Effects

November, who change the time? Ah yes, fall back one hour.  That is one less hour to work on all our projects but that's OK, will sleep one less hour. We are in the final stretch  of the 2016 (where did this year go?) Don't forget to vote!!
We are open and working hard as deadlines still need to be made and project still coming in.

At TNG, we are developing more techniques in relation to
3D scanning to give you better models. We are getting deeper into developing cars and products to expand our markets with our high-tech scanners, skilled modelers, and our mobility.

We are always researching new technology and software to keep the quality of our service at the highest level, and to accelerate our pipeline. We do our best to provide a great product to our customers.

3D Scanning Methods and Madness
You can extend the life and use of any digital asset by mixing it with assets from a separate shoot where a different technology was employed. Different scanning technologies can be mixed, but just how well depends on the abilities of the 3D artist working on your project.

Keep in mind with 3D scanning the actual 3D scanning goes quickly, it is 10-15% of the entire process.  It is the back end of the processing of the data, (cleaning it up and making it animatable; texturing the model that gives it the final look) that makes it a keeper or a waste of time and money.

At TNG we have started availing ourselves more to taking 3D scanning work that has not yet been cleaned up and finish it to a usable model .  The key is that we have enough data to work with to rebuild the model.

TNG  in the Media
This is the trailer for Star Wars: Knights of the Eternal Throne - "Betrayed". The detail in the faces rivals anything I've ever seen on screen. TNG provided the scans, and Blur created this stunning masterpiece.

Virtual Reality Can Become HyperReal with Accurate 3D Scanning

Virtual Reality  is on its path to become something mainstream instead of the niche dark corner it arose from. Last month, the Playstation VR device was released to consumers, and immediately it became the most popular destination for VR. Games require a consistent number of players for them to survive. And although the Occulus Rift and HTC Vive came out a few months earlier, they are less affordable , and less easy to use. A significant reason people wanted the PSVR is for its plug-and-play easy usability.

It's been quite the challenge for anyone to depict and articulate what the VR experience is like, and many people will say you simply have to try it yourself.  One of the things I've observed which makes VR a great experience is that your field of view is entirely utilized. To explain this further, imagine looking straight ahead, without looking left or right, you still have peripheral vision. And likewise, without  looking too far down, you just sort of know that your body is below where you're looking. Now when you enter  VR, you can still utilized your peripheral vision, but everything is within VR, and thus it sells the illusion to your brain. When you are looking straight, but just barely look down, and expect to see your body, you will see a 3D
model representation of a 3D character. This totally sells the VR experience.

In our modern times, many if not all of us are slave to our cell phones. It's a hub for email, phone calls, communication, and the entire internet. VR blocks that out. VR blocks everything. It's important to wear headphones for VR, because it further sells the illusion, and puts you in isolation within the Virtual Experience.  It's even difficult to keep a frame of reference in your mind when you're in VR as to where you are location-wise in the real world.  Am I home? Am I at work? Am I at an arcade? Am I on an airplane?  It's impossible to tell when you're jacked in to the virtual world.

Graphics are as important as they've always been, and at the moment, there are more stylized cartoon-like games for VR than there are realistic looking ones. I  t hink it's obvious that in the future graphics will only get closer and closer to reality until you literally can't  tell the difference.  And to move that direction we recommend utilizing accurate 3D scan data, which retains the measurements of its real-world counterpart along with its color texture. This is what brings VR into the future - accurate 3D scan data.

Lidar for Large Objects
When you just need to do buildings inside and/or outside LiDAR 3D scanning is the tool. When 3D scanning buildings and interiors you get accurate sets of point clouds that need to be aligned.  In most cases for production they also need to be surfaced and delivered as an OBJ file. As a triangulated OBJ you can then run quads, set up your UV's and texture. The texture maps come from either a photo shoot or using a drone, if you can get a permit.  At TNG we are currently investigating incorporating drones into our process as it is a very interesting new way to photograph buildings and other outdoor areas .  We find that using a combination of technologies gives us better data, if you select the combination carefully.

LiDAR is also a great tool to do cars and vehicles of all sizes.  Since 2001 we have scanned every vehicle imaginable: cars, boats, ships, vintage planes, trains .  With vehicles reflective finishes are tricky but we have found that good old fashioned elbow grease gets the job done.

At TNG Visual Effects we strive to stay on the cutting edge of all the current technology developments to be able to serve our customers in the very best way that we can.
