FFY 2018-2023 TIP Development Workshops Being Held in November

The Mid-Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (MRMPO) has begun the development of the FFY 2018-2023 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for the Albuquerque Metropolitan Planning Area (AMPA). To assist with TIP development, MRMPO staff will be hosting a series of workshops for agencies proposing new transportation projects to be included in the FFY 2018 -2023 TIP.
The upcoming workshops will provide opportunities for agencies to review preliminary project proposals with MRMPO staff and for staff to assist agencies with training on how to complete MRMPO TIP applications/forms and review the revised MRMPO Project Prioritization Process. If your agency is considering project proposals for the new TIP, it is strongly recommended that you attend one of the workshops. Please note that there is no specific start time (you are free to come and go as you please during these time frames), and that the workshops are simply reserved blocks of time for MPO staff to work one-on-one with you and your agency.

Third Annual ABQ
CiQlovía Transformed Central on a Sunny October Day
The third annual ABQ CiQlov
ía was held on Saturday, October 15 along Central Avenue between 2nd and 8th Streets. The street was closed to cars and opened up to people on foot and bike. Thank you to all who participated and to all the volunteers and sponsors who worked hard to make it happen!
ABQ CiQlovia is an open streets event that
encourages people of all ages and abilities to celebrate and try out active forms of transportation in a fun, safe, and social environment. Mock mid-block crossings and a protected bike lane (both pictured) were featured at the CiQlovia, allowing participants to learn more about and try out these pedestrian and bicycle treatments. Trees were brought in to enhance the street and highlight the benefits of street trees. Thanks to the NM Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects for bringing the trees and to Plant World for lending them for the event!. Many other elements and programming brought the event to life, including yoga, a bike rodeo, music, brunch, community organizations, bike repair, poetry, and bike decorating, to name some of the offerings.
Event organizers are working on an assessment of the event, which will include a participant count and lessons learned. If you attended and would like to provide feedback on the event, please fill out the
ABQ CiQlovia survey. Look out for next year's event sometime in fall 2018, and in the meantime keep the conversation going about how our streets are for all modes and people of all abilities and how we can work to make them safer for everyone!

Bugg Lights Festival Opening Night -- Take the Train!
For the third year in a row, the Harvey House Museum in Belen is home to the Bugg Lights, a dazzling display of holiday lights, beautifully decorated trees and whimsical characters. The New Mexico Rail Runner Express has expanded our train schedule to accommodate visitors to the opening night celebration on Saturday, November 26 from 5-9 p.m. Take the train to Belen to experience this uniquely New Mexican holiday tradition!

ease join us for the remaining APBP Webinars every third Wednesday of the month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the MRCOG Offices, 809 Copper Ave NW 87102.
The APBP webinars help to raise awareness of non-motorized issues with our transportation partners and facilitate interaction between the staffs of different local governments within our region.
These webinars are free and eligible for AICP certificate maintenance credits or other professional development hours.

2014 Weekday Transit Mode Share
Transit mode share is defined as the percentage of total travelers using bus or rail transit. MRCOG analyzes mode share as part of the congestion management process and because the Futures 2040 Metropolitan Transportation Plan set a goal for transit mode share in the region.To calculate the number of vehicle travelers, weekday traffic counts were adjusted using an average vehicle occupancy rate of 1.2 passengers. Weekday bus and rail ridership data were used to calculate the number of transit travelers on each road segment. In 2014, the Central Avenue corridor in Albuquerque had exceptionally high transit mode share. Greater than 10 percent of total travelers used bus transit in the urban section of Central between Rio Grande Blvd. and Pennsylvania St. Much of the corridor, particularly in Downtown and Nob Hill, had over 20 percent transit mode share. Three main bus routes served the urban section of Central in 2014: Route 766 (Red Line Rapid Ride), Route 777 (Green Line Rapid Ride), and Route 66 (local and frequent stop service). The implementation of the Albuquerque Rapid Transit (ART) bus system will significantly improve the quality and reliability of transit service on Central. ART will operate on a dedicated bus guideway along much of the corridor, and it will incorporate signal priority at many intersections. The current alignment of Route 777 will be extended west from Downtown to Unser Blvd., which will dramatically increase the number of transit trips across the Rio Grande.
