• Proper use of tourniquets
• Airway management

• Sucking chest wounds

 At the completion of this workshop participants will be able to:

• Demonstrate the appropriate application of a tourniquet to the arm and leg
• Explain rationale for quick tourniquet application
• Describe the progressive strategy for controlling hemorrhage
• Describe the appropriate airway control techniques and devices
• Demonstrate the correct application of a hemostatic dressing (combat gauze)

Instructor

Jim Newland started his professional career in the United States Navy as a Gunners Mate from 1985 to 1989 (Honorable Discharge). Jim then transitioned into the fire service where he just recently retired after 26yrs as a Driver Engineer / EMT, working in the Special Operations community specializing in Hazardous Materials, Dive Rescue, Urban Search & Rescue, Vehicle and Machinery Extrication, High Angle, Trench, and Confined Space Rescue. Jim also has experience as a Tactical Medic with the SWAT (Speacial Weapons & Tactics) team. He has trained many officers in tactical medical treatment. Since retirement, Jim has continued to work in the tactical community as a TCCC, Tactical Combat Casualty Care Instructor. He is currently working, and is trained in, High Threat Executive/Dignitary Protection field, and is a contract Special Operations Medic for various organizations. Jim likes to work hard and play hard. In his spare time he likes to travel with is wife and explore new places as well as hiking, rock climbing, hunting and sky diving. Jim’s life motto is “Lead, follow or get out of the way”, he is very comfortable in the austere environment and at home teaching people the skills he has.
