MUCH TO BE THANKFUL FOR: Loyola House Training Reaches Far
Shared by Fr. Peter Bisson, SJ, Provincial, while in Rome for the General Congregation 36 in October 2016
Today I walked home with the Vietnamese provincial, Joseph Pham Thanh Liêm. He did the 9-month program in Guelph.
In Vietnam the Jesuits have very few works, but are very busy. Their main work is with the Exercises. For example, they use teams to give 5-day retreats to about 1300 university students every summer. The provincial used to be in charge of this program.
They have about 40 or 50 numbers (I was too surprised to remember it clearly) and 200 candidates. They are bursting at the seams! But this is typical of religious life there: 30,000 religious with a total of 800 novices in a Catholic population of 6.8 million (of a total of 98 million).
Your work with this one person is having a huge impact!!
