The 24 th Week after Pentecost
2 November 2016
All Souls' Day Choral Mass
All Souls' Day Requiem Mass All-Souls-Day
TONIGHT
November 2   |   7:00 pm

Our annual commemoration of all the faithful departed will take place on Wednesday, November 2 with a beautiful sung Mass.  We will remember before God loved ones who have gone before us in faith and now sleep in the peace of Christ.
From the Catechism (The Book of Common Prayer, p. 862):
Q: Why do we pray for the dead?
A: We pray for them, because we still hold them in our love, and because we trust that in God's presence those who have chosen to serve him will grow in his love, until they see him as he is.
All Saints' Sunday
Sunday, November 6
Plus - Memorial Prayer Garden Dedication
We will celebrate the feast of All Saints' again this Sunday, November 6.  In addition, at the conclusion of the 11:15 Mass on November 6, we will move outside to consecrate our new Prayer Garden which will become a garden of Resurrection as we begin to inter ashes of loved ones whom we have entrusted into the care of Almighty God.  After the ground is consecrated, we will inter the ashes of Andy Barnard, Jim Lambert,  and Ken Sayce.
Theology on Tap
Friday, November 4  |  7 pm
November's Theology on Tap will be held at 7:00 pm this Friday, November 4 at Jim & Donna's home (6055 Deerwoods Trail, Alpharetta 30005).  All adults of the parish are invited.  Bring a beverage and appetizer to share.  To help plan, please let Dani Startt or Donna Cory know if you plan to attend this Friday (danistartt@yahoo.com; 678-520-3703 or dcorygarner@gmail.com; 678-429-1868).
Parents' Night Out
Friday, November 11  |  6:30-9:30 pm
Our next Parent's Night Out will be Friday, November 11 Our Youth Group hosts Parents' Night Out on the 2nd Friday of the month for children ages 1 through 11.  Our Middle and High School EYC provide all the activities for the evening.  The movie we'll show will be Finding Dory and so the theme will be "under the sea."  Children are welcome to bring a favorite stuffed animal or toy and wear a themed costume or pajamas.  There will be games, popcorn and snacks, crafts, and the movie.  Adult chaperones are on hand to assist the Youth Group with supervision and setting up activities.  This program was wonderfully successful last year and so we're excited for it to resume next week.
The cost is $25 for the first child and $10 each for additional children and covers the three hour program, and all proceeds go towards the Youth Mission Trip next summer.
Adults interested in helping as chaperones should contact Nathan Martin (click here).  A sign up sheet is at the Welcome Table, or you can call the parish office to register.  You can come at the last minute without registering, however pre-registration helps us prepare food and supplies for the correct number of children.
Thanksgiving Day @ St. Columba's
November 24  |  12:30 - 3:00 pm
Join us for Thanksgiving Day at St. Columba's.  Whether you're in town alone this Thankgiving or would simply like to join in a larger table for the holiday, think of spending Thanksgiving at St. Columba's.  Mass that morning is at 11:00 am.  We gather later that day for a community Thanksgiving Day celebration.  Bill & Kristi Parkinson provide the turkeys and everyone is asked to sign up to bring a salad, vegetable, or dessert to share.  We start appetizers at 12:30 pm and sit down for dinner about 1:00 pm.  All are welcome - bring neighbors or friends too!
More details and a sign up is available online (click here) or you can sign up at the Welcome Table on Sundays, if you prefer.
Bishop Whitmore To Retire
Bishop Whitmore and Mrs. Whitmore
at Rainbow Village Event
Final Visit to
St. Columba
Sunday, November 20

Bishop and Mrs. Whitmore will be leaving the Diocese of Atlanta and moving back to Wisconsin at the end of the year.  Before Bishop Whitmore came to Atlanta to become our assistant bishop, he served as the diocesan bishop of the Diocese of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.  As he retires from Atlanta, they will return to Wisconsin and live closer to their families.
Before moving, however, he wants to make one more Sunday visitation to St. Columba's.   It so happens that November 20 will also be Bishop and Mrs. Whitmore's 50th wedding anniversary.  So we are planning a special celebration for them both.
So please mark your calendar now and plan to be part of the gala celebration!  More details will be forthcoming, but this is a Sunday you do not want to miss!
