It's official...Abingdon's first annual Read-A-Thon was a huge success!  The minutes have been calculated and Abingdon's students read 203,727 minutes during the two week event, surpassing their goal!  That's over 3,395 hours of reading.   Principal Uyeda and Assistant Principal LiGuidi promised a suprise for the students if they met their goal, so I know I can't wait to see what they have planned!  While all the students contributed to meeting our goal, six classes really logged the minutes.  Mr. Morse, Ms. Nesbitt, Mr. Fox, Ms. Tyson, Ms. Edwards and Ms. Greenberg's classes all read over 10,000 minutes!  Additionally, 12 students read over 1,000 minutes.  Wow, Abingdon students really love to read.

We also met our fundraising goal!  Our original goal was $7,000.  Well, we blew that goal away by raising  $16,250 (of which the PTA will get to keep $12,120) and we still have a week to collect donations.  While the reading portion of the Read-A-Thon is officially over, the donations portion will remain open until November 11th to allow for any last minute donations.  We ask that parents please take a moment this week to help their readers pick out their prizes.  Just log into the site and click the "Shop for Prizes" button at the top.

The PTA would like to give a big THANK YOU to all the readers that participated and to all the families, friends and community members that made generous donations during this event!  The money raised during this event will serve as the majority of the PTA's budget this year, which funds valuable student, teacher and community programs.

School Photo Re-Take Day - November 16 - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Fall Picture packets were distributed last week via the Tuesday folders.  Picture re-takes will be available on November 16th for:
- students that were absent on picture day last month
- students that are new to Abingdon since picture day last month, and
- students whose parents want to have a new picture taken.

If you ordered pictures and want re-takes, please send the first set back in the original envelope to your child's teacher with a note requesting a re-take.  If your child was absent on picture day, you will receive a new order form via this week's Tuesday folder.
We are looking for two volunteers to help out with Picture Re-Take Day.  It will be from about 8:00 am - 12:00 pm.  If you have a few hours open that day, we'd love for you to help us out!  To volunteer, please contact abingdonptavolunteer@gmail.com.

Holiday Shop Date Set - December 6!
Save the date for one of the PTA's most popular events, the Holiday Shop!  Shoppers will once again be entertained by Abingdon's string students.  Look for more details in next week's Tuesday folder.  We will be looking for volunteers, so keep an eye out for an upcoming Sign-Up Genius.

Thank you again to everyone who participated in Abingdon's inaugural Read-A-Thon! We are so excited with the success of this event and look forward to doing it again next year!

Sincerely,
Jeni Hornback
Abingdon PTA President
