WAAAM Car Guys*
"Monthly Smoke Signals"! September 2016
August is over and school has started!
We finished up our last new class, "Cars of the 50's" and the fourth Model-T class on August 27. We still have two more Model-T classes yet to do. That will round out the year with a total of 9 auto classes!
The funds collected for the classes help to maintain our growing fleet of WAAAM vehicles. Thanks to all of the Car Guy Volunteers who help instruct the students in safe operation of the cars.
One major accomplishment was the "sorting into plastic containers" of all the loose parts we brought back from Kirkland last month. Phil Jensen donated a "Chevy Suburban load" of plastic boxes we put to use the same day!
Thanks to Andy, Gene, Steve, David and Robert for sorting the "treasures". It was a thankless and dirty job, but the end result is we can search and locate parts needed to finish the 1915 Willys. Hangar 3 now has some semblance of order to it!
Also a big thanks to John Benton for providing the fruit boxes, we used to "load up with parts".
The photo car for September is our 1923 Model-T Touring car. It is very photogenic with visitors posing inside it!
We are still raising money to complete the interior of the garage and plan to make more progress during this winter. If you need a tax write off, please send your donation to WAAAM c/o the Car Guys Garage Interior.
On the MLR Program front, thanks to Robert Smithwick, Andy Anderson, Robb Harding, Cal Cargill, Don Durr, Gene Wright, Paige Myers, Chip & Nancy Starr, David Castillo and Steve Roberts for their help this past month.
Thanks to our unsung WAAAM volunteer drivers, who are much appreciated in the driving classes, Second Saturday event and the Columbia River Cruise Boat car rides. Without their help, WAAAM would not be the same!
The Car Guys are actively seeking additional volunteers to join our team. We need volunteers who can do basic auto maintenance, upholstery, wood body or metal body repair, fabrication, electrical, mechanical and grant writing. Additionally, we need car ride drivers for all Second Saturday events, parades, cruise boat guests and special events, as well as WAAAM car ride hosts to load/unload people.
We hope you are interested in becoming a WAAAM Car Guy Volunteer. Please contact Stephanie Hatch at

Who doesn't like to complete a set?
This is an Aeronca K, like the one we aquired for WAAAM. Nice, huh?
We got a new airplane! It's an Aeronca K. This airplane really makes us at the museum feel great, because it means we've pretty much completed our "Aeronca Set" - with 8 on the museum's display floor! The new Aeronca K needs a little bit of restoration work before it joins the fold but with its acquisition we now have every major Aeronca aircraft produced. Neat!

Now here's the part we really don't want to talk about....
The new building project isn't done yet. We had hope but completion by the Fly-in is still a nope. A solid nope.
But that's ok! This dynamite event doesn't need another acre of display space to be awesome and we've done some Second Saturday practice runs so our crew hardly notices the construction now. You can expect all of the fabulously fun times to be had during the event to be just as awesome or more so than the past. See you all there!
