Know Your Diabetes Risk
November is American Diabetes Month

Diabetes is one of the leading causes of disability and death in the United States. One in 11 Americans have diabetes - that's more than 29 million people. And another 86 million adults in the United States are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

If you are overweight, have high blood pressure, or are age 45 or older, you are at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The good news is that making healthy changes can greatly lower your risk. To help prevent type 2 diabetes:
      • Watch your weight
      • Eat nutritious foods
      • Get more physical activity
Our partners at SelfHelpWorks offer a nine week diabetes program called LivingWell which will change the way faculty and staff manage, think and feel about dealing with diabetes.

Follow the prompts:
HCM - Main Menu - Self Service - Personal Information - Wellness Summary

In-Person Classes Ending in 2016, but On-Line Opportunities Continue
The holidays can tax your waistline and your emotions. Even though the on-campus classes are wrapping up this month, the on-line opportunities, like SelfHelpWorks and the Nutrition MOOC, remain open.

Though you will not have time to complete them for Incentive Credit this year, these are excellent resources for self-care during November and December.

Why Wellness?
Each Fall we ask you to complete three wellness activities so that you can get a current snapshot of your health. As you know, we never see your individual results, but we do use the aggregate data to better understand employee health at CWRU. This allows us to better use our resources to help improve the health of all faculty and staff.
