Agricultural Literacy Week 2016
Get excited for ALW 2016, March 20-24, 2017! The selected book for this year is The Grapes Grow Sweet. With the advent of New York's booming grape industry we are proud to feature a book that so wonderfully captures a way of life for over 1,600 family-owned vineyards in our state Be on the lookout for more information in the coming months. You Could Be Our Next Teacher of the Year
Win an expense-paid trip to the National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference in Kansas City, MO by winning our New York Agriculture in the Classroom Teacher of the Year Award. We Need Your Help!
After 13 successful and wonderful years of having an Ag Tag that has helped fund special programs for NYAITC, we are giving our specialty license plate a face lift. We are looking for feedback from the general public and our teacher and agriculture audience on what an updated license plate should look like.
We would appreciate if you would answer a few questions in survey form below so that our design firm can develop a license plate that would appeal to a variety of audiences. Your feedback is important!

NYS Ag Society Foundation Grant Application Deadline Extended
The
NYS Ag Society Foundation has extended their deadline for grant applications for 2017. Applications are now due December 1st, 2016. The theme for this grant cycle is "Improving the Ag Intellect of Youth." Applications will be accepted from classroom teachers, 4H groups, workforce development agencies, BOCES, FFA, etc.

NY Farm Bureau Scholarships Available
Do you know a high school student that will be pursuing an education about agriculture?
The New York Farm Bureau Promotion & Education Committee is encouraging high school seniors who have been involved with agriculture and plan on continuing studies in this field to apply for the 2017 New York Farm Bureau Agricultural Youth Scholarship. Scholarship awards are $1,500 for first place $1,200 for second place and $1,000 for third place. District winners chosen from the county winners will each receive $100 and a memento. The state awards are sponsored by the New York Farm Bureau Promotion and Education Committee.

October's Featured Lesson
With Halloween coming at the end of the month, your students might have pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns on their mind. Why not show your students there is a lot more to pumpkins than Halloween?
The Great Pumpkin Story
will teach a variety of subjects including history, science, nutrition, and math through the study of pumpkins. Activities include estimating the size and weight of pumpkins, sprouting pumpkin seeds, and making pumpkin pie in a bag.
