Angelle: Scrap 'energy independent'; U.S. can dominate via the Daily Advertiser
Scott Angelle says Americans have never seen such rapid shifts in the energy industry's winds.

The country has seen energy scarcity and energy abundance, high and low commodity prices, rigid regulations and a bounty of opportunities. Accent those opportunities."The country can find its energy vision by not settling for the 1980s goal of energy independence," said Angelle. " We're seeking energy dominance."

The federal government has trimmed its royalties for shallow-water drilling leases from 18.75 percent to 12.5 percent, reflecting economic realities. The hope: Lower royalties may give more room for producers in shallow water to make a profit and resume drilling.

Angelle pledged to re-evaluate BSEE's inspection processes, not to make them less safe but to make them more efficient and faster.
LNG facility open house answers questions, lays out timeline via Houma Today
People from across the region packed into the South Lafourche Library’s multipurpose room to take part in the open house for a proposed liquefied natural gas facility at Port Fourchon.

Business leaders, local government officials, port officials and residents watched a presentation from Energy World’s project manager Graham Elliott in which he outlined what the project will entail and why the company plans on investing $888 million on the facility in Port Fourchon.

“Why did we choose Port Fourchon? It’s because it’s an ideal location, it has existing port infrastructure, it has proximity to a gas supply, and there’s a skilled local labor force, which is very important to us,” Elliot said. “This project should create about around 500 jobs locally during construction ... and during full-time operation, you’re probably looking at around 150 to 200 people employed around the clock.”
Total signs agreement with Chevron on exploration in deepwater Gulf of Mexico via World Oil
PARIS -- Total announced that its subsidiary, Total E&P USA, has entered into an agreement to capture seven prospects operated by Chevron U.S.A. in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The agreement covers 16 blocks.

The associated prospects are located in two promising plays and areas of the GoM: Wilcox in central GoM next to the Anchor discovery, and Norphlet in eastern GoM nearby to the Appomattox discovery. Total’s participation in these wells will be between 25% and 40%.The first of these wells was spudded late July on the Ballymore prospect in Mississippi Canyon.

“This agreement, together with the recently announced participation in the Jack field as part of the Maersk Oil acquisition, increases Total’s footprint in the U.S. portion of the GoM where it can apply its exploration expertise and deepwater technologies. Total values Chevron’s performance as a GoM deepwater company and this agreement expands a successful co-ownership already in place on the Tahiti field”, stated Arnaud Breuillac, president exploration and production. “As a continued effort to highgrade its portfolio, Total won six offshore exploration licenses in the August lease sale."
