 AEA East Connect Conference in Jacksonville Rescheduled for Dec. 4-5
The AEA East Connect Conference in Jacksonville was postponed in mid-September due to the destruction throughout Florida caused by Hurricane Irma.
Thanks to the recovery efforts of the staff at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront, the AEA East Connect Conference has been rescheduled for Dec. 4-5.
All attendees and exhibitors who previously registered to attend do NOT need to re-register -- you are still registered for this two-day event now set for Dec. 4-5, and no further action is required.
However, you will need to make a new hotel reservation with the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront.

 Congress Toils with FAA Extension: Current Funding Expires Sept. 30
With only a few days remaining before current funding for the Federal Aviation Administration expires, congressional leaders continue to play politics on Capitol Hill. On Monday, Sept. 25, Democrats in the House of Representatives blocked an effort by Republicans that would have given the FAA a six-month extension. According to a report from
Politico, "
Top Democrats announced plans to vote against the six-month extension earlier in the day, citing opposition to unrelated Republican add-ons dealing with flood insurance, tax credits for victims of recent hurricanes and expiring health care programs.
The bill failed 245-171. The fast-track process used to consider the bill requires two-thirds support of members for passage.
House Republicans are expected to bring up the bill again under a rule -- which requires only a simple majority for passage -- later this week.

 What's in a Name? How to Avoid an ADS-B Call Sign Mismatch
ADS-B is the principal workhorse behind the Federal Aviation Administration's new GPS-based surveillance system that aims to improve aircraft separation standards and provide better safety to pilots and passengers. This more accurate system naturally requires more precise data including the aircraft's identification. The aircraft's identification can be the aircraft name (approved call sign) or FAA registration number. A large number of operational inconsistencies with ADS-B Out so far result from a naming problem, or call sign mismatch. This issue occurs any time the aircraft identification listed in a flight plan does not exactly match the ADS-B transmitted identification.
Having these two IDs match might seem simple, but in real-world aviation operations, naming conventions aren't always as straightforward as you would expect. It is important to be aware and fully understand these issues.

announced a global high-speed satellite connectivity service using Gogo's existing Ku-band satellite network. It is the same high-capacity satellite network that is currently providing bandwidth for Gogo's commercial airline partners and is flying on more than 550 commercial aircraft across 10 airlines globally. The service is expected to be available in the second half of 2018.
UNIVERSAL AVIONICS SYSTEMS CORP. received EASA supplemental type certification No. 10063034 for a UniLink UL-801 Aeronautical Telecommunications Network Baseline 1 upgrade on a Bombardier CL-600-2B16 (601-3A Variant) to comply with the Feb. 5, 2020, European Data Link Services mandate. HONEYWELL released its latest flight planning application for the Connected Aircraft, GoDirect Flight Bag Pro, to business aviation pilots. It also increased real-time, 24/7 technical support for GoDirect Cabin Connectivity customers at the GoDirect Service Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
SOCAL JETS was named an authorized dealer of Satcom Direct global connectivity solutions, Astronics AeroSat Connectivity Solutions, and BendixKing innovative and intuitive avionics. In addition, the first Universal Insight installation performed by an independent MRO will be installed in a Citation VII in December 2017 at SoCal Jets' Van Nuys, California, facility.

AERO DYNAMIX was awarded a sole source contract from the U.S. Navy to provide an STC for the TH-57 aircraft NVG modification that has been delivered to CNATRA for installation on numerous aircraft.
D.L.S. ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS will be one of 14 laboratories receiving the 2017 American Council of Independent Laboratories Customer Quality Service Award, Oct. 2-5, in Portland, Oregon.
