Parents -- We Need YOU!

Purcell Marian High School is preparing our students for entry into careers or colleges. In an effort to make our students more responsible, please help us make our students the best they can be.

  • If your student has an appointment, please send them with a note to excuse them from class. Your student will receive an Early Dismissal Pass that then they will be able to show their teacher in order to be excused from class.
  • Please realize that students will not be called out of classes to come to the Main Office.
  • No money can be left for students at the Main Office. We cannot be responsible for delivering money to students on a daily basis.
Please help your student prepare nightly for the next school day. Please make sure your student is prepared for the school day, with a packed lunch or money and all of their school work.

We truly appreciate partnering with our families to make our students as successful as they can be.

Marianist Library News

Our library is in full swing and as busy as ever! Over the summer, we received wonderful collection of new books to offer students, many of them non-fiction and historical fiction works; and the students have been borrowing them regularly. And if they request a book we don't have, we make sure they get it by partnering with the Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library. We maintain a very liberal borrowing policy-no deadlines for returns other than the end of the school year and no late fees. However, if a student loses a book, they must replace it with a like copy or pay for it. Encourage them to stop by and READ!!!

Our Words for Wisdom vocabulary-building game is off to a great start! In just one month of school, we already have over 200 submissions.   Every day we post an ACT/SAT recommended vocabulary word. Students must pronounce it, give their own definition of it and use it in a sentence. The immediate reward: Candy. The end-of-the-year reward: Cash prizes.   The REAL reward: An increased vocabulary that will serve the individual for life.   Fun Fact: Two of our Seniors, Ryan Lamb and Sam Schultheis, play every day during 7 th Bell and find a way to use the word of the day to insult each other--in a friendly way. Please encourage your sons and daughters to play.

Coming Soon to a Library Near You! Plans are in the works for a school-wide public library card drive. The goal: That every student in the school owns a public library card, which is their ticket to all the knowledge in the world. We will be coordinating this drive through our English Department. We will also be introducing them to Overdrive, a public library app which will allow them to download e-books and free music.

The Library is looking forward to hosting our first Cavalier Book Club meeting in the next month. Ms. Barret Bell, Senior English Teacher Extraordinaire, is the book club moderator. The first book selection, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon, has already been distributed to most members-26 students from all grade levels. We will advise of our first discussion/ meeting as soon as the date is set. If your son or daughter would like to join, it's never too late. Have them speak with Ms. Bell in Room 27 or Mrs. Flick in the Library.
