New! Embassy of Canada to Host Reception
|
The World Affairs Councils of America is delighted to announce that the Embassy of Canada will host a reception during the WACA 2016 Conference. Mr. Denis Stevens,
Deputy Head of Mission will preside at the event.
Mr. Stevens has served with the Canadian Government for 17 years, 10 of them in management positions in the departments of Justice; Indian and Northern Affairs; Public Safety and at the Privy Council Office, the department that serves the Prime Minister and the Cabinet.
Immediately prior to his current appointment, Mr. Stevens served as Consul General of Canada in Seattle.
WACA Conference participants may choose from one of three Embassy Receptions - Canada, France, and Oman - to be held Thursday evening, November 17 (see agenda). Please be advised that space is limited, and RSVPs are required for security purposes.

H.E. Gérard Araud
, Ambassador of France, will host a reception at his official residence.

H.E. Hunaina Al Mughairy
, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman, will host a reception at the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center.

Special evening with Tom Friedman
The World Affairs Councils of America is delighted to announce a special dinner with Tom Friedman
on
Friday, November 18, at 6:30 - 8:30 PM
. Internationally renowned author, reporter, and columnist Thomas L. Friedman has been awarded three Pulitzer Prizes for his journalism. He has written six bestselling books, among them, From Beirut to Jerusalem and The World Is Flat. (Full bio.)
This event follows the official conclusion of the Conference (see agenda) - and it is free for members of the 1918 Society. Others who wish to attend this special dinner may purchase tickets here for $100 each

|
Most recently, Maureen was the Executive Director of Second Helpings, a transportation and redistribution entity of foodstuffs from grocery retailers to the area's various food banks.
She held previous positions as Executive Director at Matthews Health Clinic and as a
Specialty
Sales Representative for Rhone-Poulenc Rorer. Maureen is a graduate of Marquette University, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Biology.
Maureen was selected as the best choice for the
position
from a pool of over 100 well-qualified applicants. She
will be working with Joan Apple Lemoine, the current Executive Director, starting November 1, and will make her solo flight starting January 1, 2017.

News Spotlight: Alaska World Affairs Council
|
Lise Falskow, President and CEO of the Alaska World Affairs Council in an special interview with Your Alaska Link.com, discussed the Council's upcoming fall programming. Lise talked about the Council's mission and the list of distinguished speakers recently hosted such as: the Ambassadors of Indonesia and Qatar, and Israel's first Bedouin diplomat Ishmael Khaldi. She highlighted the accessible and open nature of the Council's speaker events and encouraged viewers to attend future programs.
