First Thursday Bible Study with Gloria Short
November 3, 10:45 am - 12:00 pm, Room EB 102.
Our guest speaker  is Karen Phillips. Questions? Call Gloria at 396-6342.
Hurricane Matthew had a financial impact on UCOM's clients, and your help is needed! Financial contributions are encouraged at this time, and can be left in the church office. The most urgent needs for the food pantry are canned fruit, canned vegetables, cereal, pasta sauce, and rice. You can drop off your donations in the CAC or in front of the church office. The  annual Thanksgiving Food Drive allows our local needy to prepare their own dinner. Pick up your bag with the food list on Sunday, November 6 to be returned by Sunday, November 13.  Together, we have been working to end hunger and poverty since 1979, and we appreciate your support.
Following storm damage from Hurricane Matthew, UMCOR is providing a series of grants to assist Haiti in relief efforts by providing emergency food distributions in three affected communities to 600 individuals in Jeromie; and hygiene kits, emergency food and water rations, cooking kits, tarps, and Rainfresh purifier systems to 2,300 families in Las Cayes, and the surrounding region. Please click here to donate to UMCOR International Disaster Response, Advance #982450, to ensure continued funds for Hurricane Matthew relief and other international disasters.

We welcome all visitors and enjoy sharing with those who have never taken advantage of our wonderful lunches, fellowship, and varied programs.

November 10 : Our  offsite luncheon will be at Barbara Jean's on the Intracoastal. The bus leaves the church at 10:45 am. RSVP to Ruth Bailey, 268-2936.

November 13 :  The YAH visit Elmcroft of Timberlin Parc sharing fellowship, worship, and communion with residents. Share this experience with us at 3:30 pm.

November 20 Our third Sunday luncheon starts at 12:15 pm in the CAC Dining Room. A program will follow by Dr. Jeff Jacqmein. All are welcome!

Church-Wide Blood Drive

Our next church-wide blood drive will be held on Sunday, November 20 from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm in front of our CAC entrance. Reservations can be made online at http://www.oneblooddonor.org or you can just walk up that Sunday morning. There is no greater gift than a donation of life-saving blood that you alone can give to a fellow human being. Hope to see you there. Free donuts await you!

Dear Friends of Lakewood UMC,
Thank you so much for participating in this year's Baby Bottle campaign. Since 1994, the church has assisted First Coast Women's Services in helping over 20,000 women in our community make life-affirming decisions for their unborn babies. We would not exist if not for the valuable prayers, assistance, and support we receive from the body of believers in the church. Your participation in the Baby Bottle campaign plays a vital role in helping us continue to provide free services that save lives, heal hearts, and minister compassion to those who are facing an unplanned pregnancy crisis. Your church's collection blessed us with $1,927.91 this year. Again, we thank you and give praise to God for the ways you are partnering with us to make a difference  in continuing to lower the abortion rate in Jacksonville and Northeast Florida. In Christ,
-Judy S. Weber, CEO, First Coast's Women's Services

Preschool Pecan Fundraiser

Our Lakewood United Methodist Preschool is selling pecans as a fundraiser. A lot of people buy them as gifts for friends, neighbors, and coworkers. Others use the fresh pecans for their holiday baking. They are delicious and the price is hard to beat - especially when proceeds help the school. There are several kinds available: plain pecan halves ($10); plain pecan pieces ($10); roasted and salted pecan halves ($8); chocolate-covered pecans ($8); glazed pecans ($8), cinnamon-glazed pecans ($8); pecan caramel clusters ($8); English walnuts ($8); and roasted and salted cashews ($8).  You may use the form here to pay online. If you order online, you do not need to fill out an order envelope. Envelopes are available in the church office, in the children's building, on the tables on Wednesday nights, and in the Welcome Center. We will ship to out-of-town people, and expect delivery in mid-November. Please email Jennifer Johnson Ramp with any questions, [email protected]. Thank you for supporting our preschool!

Christmas Greenery Sale

The youth are selling fresh wreaths, garlands, and other items as a fundraiser. The orders will arrive, shipped directly to the recipient, 7-10 days after Thanksgiving. Order some for your home or for your friends/family who might enjoy something beautiful for the holidays. A table will be set up in the gym on Sundays and Wednesdays if you would like to buy something, but are not asked by a youth. Please contact Bryan Amerling with any questions, or if you would like to see what we have available, 424-7994,  [email protected]. Thank you!

Singers Wanted

If you are a youth or adult who likes to sing, and you're available during the next 8 weeks, read on!  This year's Christmas musical, "At Last Noel", will be presented at both services on Sunday, December 18.  Rehearsal with the orchestra will occur on Saturday, December 17 from 10:45 am to no later than 12:45 pm.  If you are available to rehearse on December 17, and sing on December 18, and you can also come to some Wednesday evening rehearsals at 7:30 pm, contact Steve Chapman at  [email protected] We will provide you with a music book, a rehearsal CD, and an opportunity to participate in this wonderful event.

Media Team Volunteers Needed

We are looking for volunteers to join our new multimedia team. This team will operate our lighting, projection, and sound needs on Sunday morning and for special events. If you are interested, please contact Steve Chapman in the church office, 733-8477.

FOOD, FUN, AND FELLOWSHIP!

Our recent Potluck Dinner on September 19 and the Progressive Dinner on October 21 brought the women of Lakewood together for two very special evenings of laughter, great food, and wonderful fellowship. Many thanks to all who helped plan and implement these events under the leadership of Valerie Farman, Women's Ministry Chair, to the church administration and staff whose helpfulness is indispensable, and very special thanks to Michelle Crawford and Mitzie Griffin for opening their hearts and homes for the Progressive Dinner, and to Kim Skinner for her words of wisdom on "Tasting and Savoring the Richness of God's Blessings!" We hope all the women of Lakewood will join in the fun and fellowship at our upcoming events!

With more than 2,500 speeches, seminars, retreats and workshops to her credit, Kim Skinner has been featured in events from coast-to-coast, and as far away as India. Her compassion, wacky sense of humor, and willingness to "get real" endear her to a variety of audiences, and she's a master at entertaining while providing practical steps for success.

A native Texan with the twang to prove it, Kim holds a Bachelor of Sociology degree and a Master's Degree in Special Education from Vanderbilt University. Married to the same man for more than 30 years, she has also modeled, ranched, taught disabled children, raised five youngsters, traveled widely, cared for countless barnyard animals, and cooked more meals than she cares to remember.

With passion, skill, and an utter lack of pretension, Kim brings deep wisdom and perspective to help audiences navigate the complex challenges of work and relationships in today's world. For more information about this dynamic Christian and her ministries, visit her website kimskinner.com or see her on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/kimskinnerwordsforwomen/.
