ELL Teachers are passionate about their commitment to provide English Language Learners the support they need. From conversations with ELL teachers (and Para's) many have concerns like: models of instruction; understanding ELL students; meaningful data; resources; curriculum; and caseloads . . . to name a few.
One teacher shared,
"In my 10+ years of teaching ELL, I've never been so concerned about my students as I am this year."
As we head into bargaining, let's get the issues on the table and discuss paths to meaningful resolution.

ELL Students Deserve Better: A meeting for KEA members interested in ELL student success.
KEA Leadership has received several calls recently regarding students that are demonstrating unsafe behavior, physical aggression, disruption and defiance, and violent behaviors on a daily basis. The district has responded by sending behavior interventionists/specialists out to buildings. Unfortunately, the specialists themselves have also been the target of unsafe behavior by these same students.
After attending the last school board meeting, it is clear the KEA is going to need to take the lead on keeping our classrooms safe. Unfortunately, a very different picture was painted for the school board members which led them to believe that unsafe classrooms are a minor issue. Teachers continue to be assaulted, furniture in the classroom continues to be thrown, and other students in the class continue to be bit, hit, punched, and bullied.
Please contact the KEA office at 253 852-1350 if you are in this type of situation. You can also email at
Gina.
